NATUROPATHY - HERBAL MEDICINE - AYURVEDA - CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

"The word Mudita was used by the Buddha. He called it one of the Four Heavenly Abodes. It means ‘rejoicing’, or ‘rejoicing in happiness’. In particular it means ‘rejoicing in another’s happiness’. Mudita is one of the true benchmarks for what constitutes a really healthy mind and body." - Rev Doko Michael Hatchett

    ABOUT US

The Centre is run by husband and wife team, Kester and Nadia Marshall (pictured right). It is an Affiliated Centre with the national Mudita Institute for Health & Happiness where Kester and Nadia are co-Directors with Rev Michael Doko Hatchett (see www.muditainstitute.com).

    Kester Marshall N.D.

Kester began his studies in Naturopathy and Western Herbalism directly out of school and after further studies in various body therapies, began his practice at the age of only 21.

When travelling in India in 2000 he fell very ill and as a result was introduced to the life science of Ayurveda. For him this system of medicine held a profound key to understanding the relationship between mind and body and the even broader relationship we share with nature and its cycles. Following this experience, he began studies with Dr David Frawley through the American Institute of Vedic Studies. He then spent six months gaining clinical experience at the Ayurvedic Research Institute and with Private Doctors in Pune, India, before studying with his current teacher, Dr Ajit of A.I.A.S. in New Zealand.

Although Kester works with patients on all manner of health issues, he has had a great deal of experience and
success with people suffering from chronic illnesses
(e.g. CFS, arthritis, cancer), women's problems (e.g. menstrual issues, infertility, menopause, pregnancy and post-pregnancy care) and mental and emotional problems (e.g. depression, stress, anxiety, etc).

His approach to counselling is informed by principles of Ayurvedic and Buddhist psychology, and incorporates breathing techniques and body awareness that ground the intellectual process of counselling firmly in the body. Kester is also experienced in a variety of body therapies and can use Ayurvedic massage, shirodhara, craniosacral therapy and shiatsu as part of his treatment approach, where necessary. He continues to build on this knowledge, always learning from his colleagues at Holistic Physiotherapy.

Kester realises that despite the incredible amount of detail and complex knowledge available, in essence, for people to lead a rich and fulfilling existence, the most vital thing for them to know is what is uniquely important to them as individuals. As a practitioner, Kester is well known for his warmth, compassion, ability to explain difficult concepts simply and uncompromising commitment to traditional perspectives. In addition to running the Centre, he is Director of Traditional Medicine & Lifestyle Studies at the Mudita Institute.

    Nadia Marshall

As a teenager, Nadia had a restricted eating disorder and throughout her early twenties entered the land of yo-yo dieting. It wasn’t until her late twenties that she found relief from her ongoing confusion and stress about food, weight and her relationship with her body.

Through her exploration and integration of Ayurveda and Yoga into her life over the last 6 years, she has experienced
a profound freedom from these issues. She has studied Ayurveda with Dr Ajit from A.I.A.S in New Zealand and lives the daily principles at home with Kester.

She is passionate about helping others, particularly women, to re-learn how to eat in a way that is stress-free, nourishing, enjoyable and delicious. She wants to help eating become a deeply pleasurable experience again and for women to love, appreciate and be more connected to their bodies. As a result, Nadia enjoys educating people about how to avoid the confusion created by nutritionism, food science and the food industry by embracing a more traditional outlook. She has written 'Eat Slim For Life', a Food and Lifestyle Education Program based on Ayurvedic Principles and co-authored 'Warmth: The Cookbook' to help achieve this.

Nadia is also the Director of Food & Environment
Studies at the Mudita Institute, and is a Member of the Australasian Ayurvedic Association and of the Slow Food Movement.

Nadia originally studied science and commerce at
University and worked for 12 years in the field of
communications, including 6 years as speechwriter for the former Vice Chancellor of UniSA, Professor Denise Bradley AC.

    CONSULTATIONS

When you book in for a consultation or bodywork at the Mudita Centre, you will see Kester initially. Your first appointment will involve a pulse and tongue examination and a discussion about your current and past issues, family history, diet, lifestyle and so on.

After taking of a thorough case history, Kester will recommend appropriate treatments which may include nutrition and lifestyle advice, herbal medicine, bodywork, counselling and personal instruction in therapeutic meditation. Subsequent follow-up appointments are predominantly for support, bodywork and counselling.

A consultation is essential prior to undertaking any therapeutic bodywork (including massage) to ensure that you derive maximum benefit from the treatment. Ayurvedic massage, in particular, involves the use of specific medicated oils, strokes and the manipulation of marma points (similar to acupressure points) according to your constitution and current imbalances - so an initial constitution is absolutely necessary.

Call 8339 4322 today to book an appointment!

    BODYWORK

As mentioned above, a consultation is essential before any therapeutic bodywork. At the Centre we provide Ayurvedic Therapeutic Massages (Abhyanga), Ayurvedic Shirodhara treatments and Craniosacral Therapy.

Ayurveda describes Abhyanga (oil massage) as being an integral part of life. In our hectic modern lives with increased stress, travel and more sedentary lifestyles the importance of regular Abhyanga is even greater. Regular practice of Abhyanga will promote suppleness and flexibility of muscles and joints, calm and nourish the mind and nervous system, increase strength, benefit the skin and complexion, improve circulation, alleviate pain and tiredness and promote longevity. Professional Abhyanga treatment involves the application of selected oils appropriate for the season, your constitution and any current health issue.

Shirodhara is a deeply relaxing treatment involving the precise pouring of warm, medicated oil upon the forehead. It is considered one of the most effective treatments in Ayurveda for stabilising and calming the mind and is used in the treatment of deep seated conditions such as anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, depression, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, high blood pressure, migraines and chronic headaches.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a light-touch manual approach that enhances the body’s natural healing capabilities. For nearly 30 years it has been shown to be effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and loss of function. CST is useful as both a primary treatment method and combined with other traditional or complementary techniques.

“EAT SLIM FOR LIFE: PERFECT DIGESTION FOR PERFECT HEALTH! ”

‘Eat Slim For Life’ is a Food and Lifestyle Program based on Ayurvedic Principles to help people better enjoy their food, enjoy themselves and, as a result, enjoy their lives! The Program offers a simple, sustainable approach to eating based on the qualities of food, rather than its nutrients. It is designed to provide a foundation for healthy weight loss (if necessary) and lifelong health by working directly on strengthening the mind/body metabolism.

Written in a fun, frank and very personal way, the 8-Module Program takes you on a comprehensive tour of your
physical and mental metabolism, their importance, and how to strengthen them FOR LIFE with three simple qualities - WARM, LIGHT and SLIGHTY OILY. The Program offers a way of eating and living that is delicious, nourishing and deeply satisfying. It is about learning to really love yourself and your food, perhaps for the first
time in your life.

The Program is appropriate for anyone who has suffered stress or confusion about food and what to eat, including those with, or recovering from eating disorders. It is particularly appropriate for yoga students as the recommendations will help to enhance both your commitment to practice and the benefits you receive from it.

'Eat Slim For Life' is a ‘stand alone’ product, specifically designed for people to work through it on their own, at their own pace. However, in some circumstances, people may want additional support. Nadia works with individuals in Adelaide to help walk them through the approaches, step-by-step, as required. She also offers one-on-one cooking classes.

'Warmth: The Cookbook' is included as part of the Program. These simple, delicious recipes from a variety of cultural influences and for every day use help to stabilise and strengthen our mind/body metabolism and develop greater warmth, kindness and satisfaction in our lives.

For a FREE information pack, email Nadia at nadia@muditacentre.com.au.
