Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese Medicine, which has been developed and used over many thousands of years. The fundamental principles of acupuncture are to maintain health and balance within the body, and to prevent disease and disharmony.

An Acupuncture treatment consists of a consultation and treatment, along with dietary and lifestyle advice. The Practitioner will often observe your wrist pulse, tongue, palpate areas of the body and ask you several questions about your current and past state of health. This process is used to obtain a whole picture of your health in order to individualize a treatment to your specific needs.

The treatment itself may involve the insertion of several fine (0.22 of a mm thick), sterile and disposable needles, which act to stimulate Qi (pronounced Chee). This Qi (also known as energy or life-force) is a substance which courses throughout your body and is intimately related to the delicate balance of health and illness. Manipulation of Qi through the treatment will help to bring your body back into a state of good health.

Acupuncture is relatively new to those in the West, and is fast becoming a popular alternative to some of the Western based medical treatments available. Several reasons for this rapid growth include;

- Harmless and effective

- Treats not only your symptoms but also the root cause

- Promotes healing within your body, does not suppress immunity

- May be used by all people of all ages

- Can treat a wide variety of conditions, including headaches, stress, sleeping problems, gastro-intestinal complaints

- Relaxing, rejuvenating, user friendly

- Can leave you feeling happier and healthier than ever before!

Massage is also an excellent way to promote your health and wellbeing. It can enhance blood and lymph flow, clear toxins, relax tired and aching muscles and tendons, improve immunity, and most of all leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

You may take advantage of a number of different styles, including remedial massage for specific aches and pains, deep tissue for overworked muscles, or simply relaxation massage to help you feel calm and centered again.

Thai Foot Massage focuses on the reflex zones on the feet and is an excellent way to rejuvenate the whole body. Treatment also includes a arm,hand, neck and head massage.

Corporate Massage may be utilized in the workplace to promote health and wellbeing. In the current climate of busy schedules and increasing workloads, many find it difficult to take the time out for regular treatments.

This service can be used as an on-going incentive and/or reward and will be a welcome break for hard-working employees. Corporate Massage is now seen as an important component to Occupational Health and Safety, and can help reduce work related strain or injury .

Qi Medicine offers and in house seated massage, requiring no undressing or oils. Sessions can be from 10-30 minutes, and focus on the neck, head, shoulders and back. A pricing list for all services is avaliable at the bottom of the page. For availability, please contact Sheena directly.

Other modalities which may be utilized during an Acupuncture or Massage session to enhance the therapeutic effect include;

Cupping (glass suction cups placed on the skin which draw toxins out from the body, relax muscles and tendons, promote Qi and blood flow)

Moxibustion (Mugwort herb burnt close to the skin to have a warming and tonifying effect)

Ear candling (beeswax cones which gently draw excess ear wax build up from the ear canal)

Acupuncture an Massage do not replace all medical treatments available, and your doctor should be consulted before you discontinue any other forms of treatment. Yet it can be a wonderful compliment to boost healing, promote well-being and encourage a long and happy life.
