One-on-one training

Small Groups and Buddy PT
Save money with Small Groups and Buddy PT, Bring a friend or train with less than 6 people. Personalized sessions are guaranteed. At a range of times to suit you, small group’s sessions are social, friendly and supportive and a good way to save on cost!

Large Groups
With no more than 30 people, large group activities may include boxing, strength and cardio circuits.

Boxing
Using Boxing equipment, techniques & training methods for a great cardiovascular, upper and lower body workout. This type of exercise is one of the best ways to get fit, and is a great way to relieve stress of the day. Box fit uses the basic principles of boxing and blends together a mix of fitness, flexibility and core conditioning


Suburban circuits, workshops and classes

Give yourself confidence, health and vitality!


Each client is guaranteed to receive one on one attention in a small group environment. All classes run for 50-60 minutes with music. Group classes are fun and suited to all fitness levels. There is a maximum of 6 people at any one time in Studio One!

Using free weights, balls, bands and other equipment in a circuit class, to increase strength, improve stability and balance, while reducing body fat at the same time.

Balls, Bosu and Bands
A strength and tone workout using swiss balls, bosu and resistance bands.
Express Strength and Tone
Using free weights and cardio stations to increase strength and burn calories.
Boxing for Fitness
This type of class is one of the best ways to get fit and a great way to relieve stress of the day.
Fit Fabulous and Great Abs
This class is a great workout for your whole body. Strength, tone, gain balance, coordination and core conditioning

Classes run Tuesday and Friday mornings 6.30-7.30am and 7.30-8.30am at VPTs ‘Studio One’ or get a group together and choose a time and location to suit you!


Pilates

The Pilates principles recognize the need for a strong core with good alignment, functional mobility and attention to correct breathing. The Pilates method provides a unique approach to body awareness, postural work and stability training.

Pilates Principles
Concentration - the ability to block out distraction and analyze where we are statically.
Alignment - posture position of bones and joints, looking at keeping your bones in line.
Centering - we hold our alignment by using muscles; our muscles provide stability and movement.
Breathing - effective breathing enhances energy and wellbeing. Breathing is lateral thoracic breathing.

The focus is on integrating the mind and body to increase muscle control and balance.
The result is not just to strengthen one particular muscle action but to deliver a smooth controlled movement pattern.

About Melanie

I created Vigour Personal Training in 2005 after completing my Certificate IV in Personal Training/Master Trainer. I am a Canberra based fitness professional who runs personal training workshops at either your place or mine, indoors or out.

As a qualified Chef, providing health and nutrition information to my clients is very important to me to help maintain both a healthy body and mind, using nutrition and exercise. Your diet should be nutritious, healthy, and most of all enjoyable.

I continue to keep informed of the latest developments in the fitness industry, both nationally and internationally by attending regular workshops, fitness expositions and updating my professional training with the latest courses provided by Fitness Australia Certified Instructors.

What made you first decided to get a personal trainer?
I have a back problem and it was recommended that I exercise. I did not feel comfortable going to the gym. I wanted an exercise program that was geared to my needs and involved a range of exercises.

How has your training changed your lifestyle?
I exercise regularly and my balance has improved. I feel very positive about my long-term health future.

What do you love most about your training?
I love that my training is at time convenient to me and that someone else is able to see an improvement in my fitness, even when I can't.

What advice would you give to others?
Personal training is a great way to get back into exercising regularly. It gives you the chance to try new things and to learn how to do them safely and correctly.

How has your training changed your lifestyle?
I have become stronger, fitter and more balanced generally both physically and emotionally. Training is a challenge and it tests you on a number of levels, but in saying that it also gives you a great sense of achievement with every session. Not only are you gaining physical fitness and benefits, but you are also refreshing your mind and emotions and feeling good about yourself and what you have achieved each time. This has a flow on effect to the rest of your life both physically and emotionally. Also, you start taking more notice of your diet, both because you are toning up and also to fuel properly for sessions. This gives you a direction and an 'aim' for your diet and nutritional approach to your lifestyle that is not so much based on 'losing weight' as much as 'eating smart' as an indirect result of the PT program.

What do you love most about your training?
Completing the session!!! ...seriously though, probably the best part for me is the fact that someone else does the thinking about the session plans, the balance of exercises and the holistic approach to my training. Also that you have company throughout the session with someone who is genuinely invested in insuring that you are receiving the maximum benefit from your efforts and that you enjoy the sessions as well....and that it fits around everything else in life, timing wise.

What advice would you give to others?
Give it a go...The hardest part about exercising or starting an exercise or weight loss program is the beginning when you are trying to learn how to exercise and also stick with it on the bad days. With a PT you are provided with a motivator - who adjusts to your needs and personality - who will also train and teach you to exercise. Once you have learnt this skill and you start to see some results in your changing body, you will be hooked and you will find that it gets easier from there. PT is also perfect for busy people who simply want a good solid and challenging workout, or a gentle routine, fitted into a busy lifestyle with someone else doing all the planning.
