What is Shiatsu Massage?
SHIATSU (she-at-su) is a time-honoured Japanese system of healing through touch. Treatments focus on supporting the body’s ability to maintain or re-establish its natural state of health and well-being. Accordingly, it is used for a wide range of conditions such as stress; tiredness; neck, shoulder & back pain; headaches; anxiety; depression; recovery from illness and general malaise. In fact, most conditions respond well to Shiatsu because it is a holistic therapy.
Shiatsu is closely related to Acupuncture. Its theoretical basis is the system of meridians and acupuncture points (tsubo) that forms the basis of all branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Instead of needles, however, a Shiatsu Therapist uses palm and finger pressure, movement and gentle stretching techniques to deeply relax, balance and invigorate your whole system.
Pressure is adjusted to suit individual needs and preferences.
Shiatsu is holistic
One of the great gifts of Traditional Chinese Medicine is that it draws no arbitrary distinction between our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual selves. Using this model, virtually all aspects of our wellbeing can be accessed, supported and nurtured using Shiatsu techniques.
Shiatsu effectively complements western medical treatments for chronic and acute illnesses. In fact, one of the benefits of Shiatsu is that it can be used in conjunction with virtually all other systems of healing.
Your treatment
Shiatsu is conducted on a futon on the floor. Wear loose, comfortable clothing for your treatment (eg a tracksuit) – preferably, garments made of natural fibres such as cotton, silk or linen.
When is Counselling useful?
There are many reasons for seeing a Counsellor, such as:
relationship difficulties
feeling anxious, stressed or out of control
past or current abuse
grief and sadness
issues around sexuality and sexual preference
work difficulties
support while planning a change of lifestyle
feeling depressed or unhappy
major or chronic illness
feeling that ‘there should be more to life than this’
In fact, it’s appropriate to see a counsellor in any situation when you would like support to help you to move forward.
What will I talk about during counselling?
Every person comes to Counselling with different needs. Some want to explore their issues in great depth, gaining insight into the source of their feelings, illnesses or behaviours. Others simply want to learn new ways of managing specific aspects of their lives. The choice is yours.
Some people are quite clear about the issues that they want to explore during Counselling. For others, it may be more difficult to pinpoint the source of their problems. If this is the case, it’s often helpful to simply start talking about what’s happening for you now and what’s on your mind.
The emphasis in a Counselling relationship is entirely on your needs.
What is Pranic Healing?
Prana is energy. Different traditions use different names for energy, such as:
Ki in Japan (as in Reiki)
Qi or Chi in China
Ruah in Hebrew
Good physical and emotional health is achieved when Prana is fresh, plentiful and flows freely. Any disruption in the flow can manifest as physical illness and emotional distress.
There are many ways of rebalancing Prana, for example acupuncture, yoga, Tai Qi, Shiatsu, cranio-sacral therapy.
Pranic healing is a no-touch method of. cleansing, energising and balancing the energy body.
This can be done in several ways, such as using the system of acupuncture points and meridians or the chakras or working directly with emotions and thought patterns. I work using quartz crystals to make the treatments more effective.
Pranic healing is effective as a stand-alone treatment but many clients choose to incorporate it into Shiatsu or Counselling sessions. Many conditions respond extremely well to this therapy, such as:
Depression, anxiety, grief, trauma
Unwanted memories from abuse issues
Burns
Headaches
Sinus
Pain
Weak lower back
Bronchitis
Digestive problems
In fact, it can be used for any condition and in conjunction with any other treatment.
After treatment, clients generally report ‘feeling lighter’, ‘relaxed’, ‘sleepy but energised’. On occasions, results can be instantaneous.
