    A write-up from "SHAPEUP" Magazine (February 1983)

Pensioners in wheelchairs, patients who have suffered a stroke or heart attack, businessmen with a back problem - these are the sort of people who attend Roscoe's Massage clinic which is located in suites of rooms in the Mc Nally's Health Studio in Light Square.

Ross King is a qualified Swedish and Connective Tissue Therapeutic Masseur who studied under a registered Chiropractor - Osteopath and two sports masseurs.

Ross received all his training in Adelaide and is a great supporter of the "S.A. Great" theme. Why go interstate or overseas when the best in massage instruction, and many other fields is right here? he asks.

To support the statement, Ross has found that when ballet dancers from around the world come to Adelaide, they come to his clinic for treatment. He has letters of Thanks from members of the Royal Ballet Company, Covent Garden, The Jeune Ballet de France and the Australian Ballet Company.

Ross was a foundation member of the South Australian registered Masseurs Association Inc and later became vice president and then president. In addition to his practice as a masseur Ross also instructs diploma courses in Swedish and Connective Tissue Massage for which he has produced his own manual.

    A contented Client Reports

Feeling tired, run down and tensed up, I was aware of a caption inviting people (like myself) to — Be different! From Massage! - Feel Great!

So, on further enquiring, I made an appointment and was fortunate enough to fulfil this almost straight—away. I was introduced to the Practitioner who welcomed me along and led me to a Massage Treatment Room, where I was briefly instructed on what to do. While undressing, there was an information board pertaining to Massage explaining problems suffered, comments after treatments, practitioner’s credentials plus memorabilia and more so, information about Massage and what was expected for the Patient from the Practitioner. This certainly helped sedate my apprehensive inhibitions as to what was to happen since Massage was positively new to me! Shortly afterwards, the Practitioner entered the room and I lay face down on the bench and was asked if I had any problems or aches and pains anywhere. To this, I indicated a low back-ache and tightness about the neck and shoulders. A small amount of madisimal paraffin oil was rubbed onto my buttocks and back followed by a series of cutting sensation strokes then kneading , pressing (ouch!) and percussion-type massage movements applied. A scientific specialized programmed method of stimulating dermatomes about my back and spine cleared up my Lumbago plus a catching stabbing pain about the Scapula periphery created a weird feeling! Rolfing to the trapezius and neighbouring muscles supporting the Spine took my breath away and made me grunt and squirm, but immediately afterwards, it felt so free where I could even breathe deeper and easier than before!

Thumbs digging deep into the tops of the shoulders by the neck was painful, but the final kneading to these muscles and the neck was most relieving and relaxing; it felt as though a load had been lifted off my shoulders! Next to be treated, were the legs where the tight hamstrings responded quickly to allow more flexibility. The feet (and toes) were rather ticklish to start with but I quickly
    became immuned to that! - - -

After turning over, the calves were virtually acupressured which was excruitiating but certainly worth it later on. The tummy was firmly stroked and made the Intestines gurgle and rumble which tended to be embarrassing. Circular finger stroking of the pectoral muscles and chest made me quiver! Even the shoulders and arms contained a strong kinetic energy current flow to the hands and fingers.
I ‘dropped off’ for about 5 minutes after a soothing approach to the tension areas of the forehead and eyes.
After dressing, I felt completely rejuvinated and ‘fully charged up’ ready to face the world again!
In conclusion, the Practitioner worked solidly for the time duration and certainly earnt the moderate fee charged. Everything was performed skilfully by hand (no machines) and certainly made me aware of my body’s weak and sore areas unbeknown to me, and it practically’beats everything else’ to combat tension and stress!
I promptly made another appointment for the following week.

Additional training with the swedish Massage system (S.M.S) occurred from sports Masseurs in 1972 - 73 (from Mr J.E Barber and Mr S.Caudo)

Affiliate of the Royal Society of Health Great Britian (1973) (Affil R.S.H)

    MASSAGE ORGANIZATION OCCURRENCES

(P.M.R.T.S.) in May, 1982. TREATMENT APPRAISALS:

(April, 1976) (Vidal Sassoon—International Hair Stylist - U.S.A.) “Ross ‘s Massage has to be one of the most exhilarating experiences Adelaide has to offer.”

(March, 1977) (Petrus Bosman=Jeune Ballet de France Cote D’Agur) “To Ross, you are without a doubt the very best masseur and a super person! .hope we meet again.”

(Ann Jenner=Royal Ballet Co.Covent Garden, London)
“To dear Ross, with many thanks and sincere best wishes.”

(Eric Williams—Businsss Studies Tutor-Dept of Technical and Further Education,Adelaide).

“In May, 1975, I was involved in a car accident and sustained severe head injury. I was in hospital for 3 months and was away from work for another 3 months. Finally, the doctors could do little more, so I went back to work. At this stage I was a mess. The back was bent and twisted , the shoulders were bent and twisted, the legs did not function very well and my walk was a shuffle. Eyes did not function on very well. I could see clearly, straight ahead for about 1O’-2O’. My body was full of aches and pains. So I came to Mr King for massage. It has been a long slow process, but now my back and shoulders are straight, my walk is good and the eyes are as good as they ever were.

    Thank you Ross.

    (Dale Baker= Australian Ballet Co.)
“To the best masseur I’ve even known! with many thanks”. October, 1980
