The Velvet Ripple
I am currently a mobile therapist offering 4 alternative therapies for clients. The positive affect of being treated in your own home is you do not need to travel afterwards, allowing you to instantly relax, giving your body the opportunity to process the work it has just undertaken. As these modalities all involve energy work, this can be very important.
I am pleased to announce that in early 2009 I will be able to offer a treatment room to attend in the Montrose area, however, home visits will still be offered upon request.
Quantum BioEnergetics (QB)
Quantum BioEnergetics is a new, hands off, energy therapy to Tasmania and I am excited and proud to be one of the first practitioners to offer this wonderful healing alternative. As it is a new therapy, I'd like to offer some insight into what QB actually is and what a session would entail.
Quantum BioEnergetics is a powerful healing modality that uses quantum frequencies, readily available in all living things, to enable healing through the human energy field at the biological level. These healings may be physical, emotional or spiritual.
Treatment takes place fully clothed on a padded table with your eyes closed. It is suggested that you wear loose comfortable clothing for your session, and shoes that are easily removed. If you are unable to lie comfortably on a table, then this healing can be given in any position that you feel comfortable in. Throughout your session your facilitator will move their hands gently around the body without touching you physically. At the end of the session your facilitator will touch your shoulder lightly to let you know that the session is finished.
Whilst each healing session is unique for the individual, you may experience a number of sensations during a session. The flow of frequency continues for some time after a session, enabling your healing to continue. During this time it is perfectly safe to carry on with your normal day to day activities.

Reiki
Reiki is a hands on energy healing that allows the body to utilise the energies you give it to heal itself.
In this energy work, I will place my hands in various positions on the body, depending on where I feel the most help is needed or where I feel the best results will occur, and I leave them there until the energy stops flowing. This is never done to the discomfort of the client and should a client be uncomfortable with the placement, hands can always be moved at their request. The placement of the hands is in a neutral position and done with the permission of the client. Reiki has proven to be a very affective modality and I have been able to utilise Reiki in conjunction with Massage.
Massage
Massage is defined as the systematic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for a curative effect. Soft tissues are made more pliable through massage to promote circulation and blood flow and bring about healing effects: physical and psychological changes for general wellbeing.
What types of massage does The Velvet Ripple offer?
1. Deep Tissue Massage – focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It is designed to reach the deep sections of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibres.
2. Swedish Massage – is a system of long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration and shaking motions that apply pressure between muscles and bones, rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish Massage feels good, is relaxing and invigorating.
3. Pregnancy Massage – Through a combined use of Swedish and Deep tissue techniques, Pregnancy massage assists with the tensions and pains experienced during pregnancy. These are often caused by the extra weight and shift in the centre of gravity. There are many physical benefits to Pregnancy Massage, in addition to the nurturing and emotional support provided by the practitioner. Massage reduces peripheral swelling, soothes the nervous system, helps to prevent insomnia, muscle cramps and back pain.
Cupping
Cupping refers to an ancient Chinese practice in which a cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced (by using change in heat or by suctioning out air), so that the skin and superficial muscle layer is drawn into and held in the cup. In some cases, the cup may be moved while the suction of skin is active, causing a regional pulling of the skin and muscle (the technique is called gliding cupping).
At the Velvet Ripple, I use both glass and plastic cups, however, for therapy conducted in your home, plastic cups are used as it is easier and more practical to use.
While Cupping can be used to assist clients with various health issues ie lung infections, digestive issues, asthma and the common cold, I also use it in conjunction with Massage as it assists me to release the facia, allowing easier faster access to the clients muscles, and in turn, the client receives more attention on the muscles. It also allows a deeper penetration into the muscle, assisting in the release of any tension which may be found. Cupping is a very multi tasking modality and I find it a very useful tool.
Sessions
Qantum BioEnergetics and Reiki sessions vary between 20 minutes and 2 hours, dependant on the clients requirements. Generally a session will take approximately 1 hour.
Massage and Cupping appointments are available for 1/2 hour, 1 hour or 1 ½ hours.
