About Natural Herbal Medicines
Natural herbal medicines and foods have been used for centuries to treat illnesses and injuries. This form of treatment is well proven by experience and now through many valid scientific studies.
Naturopathy is complementary to general medicine, not an alternative. With appropriate advice, natural medicine can safely be used in conjunction with many other treatments.
Natural medicine is extremely helpful in achieving and maintaining good health, and in preventing or slowing the onset of many chronic and degenerative conditions.
Natural medicine also offers hope to some who have exhausted other options.

Health Waves
At Health Waves, Joanne will undertake a comprehensive assessment of your current and past health situation, including a detailed medical history and current lifestyle influences.
In assessing your health, Joanne uses tools such as:
- Physical assessment
- Postural analysis
- Iridology
- Survey instruments
- Hair tissue mineral analysis; and
- Saliva, blood and urine testing
Once Joanne has determined where imbalances exist, she will recommend the natural treatments that are most appropriate for you, including:
- Herbal medicines
- Nutritional supplements
- Bodywork/remedial massage
- Postural adjustment
- Lifestyle change
- A revised nutritional program
- Stress management techniques
- Better sleep techniques
- Counselling; and
- Life health plans (for children pregnancy, fertility, to lose weight for aging, to improve sporting performance, etc).
After the initial assessment a treatment plan, and any required prescriptions, will be provided to you (in writing). Follow-up care is offered either during a further consultation or by telephone (for those who are in more remote regional areas).
Joanne Symington ND, RN, RMT

Joanne Symington is a university qualified Naturopath (ND). She is also a Registered Nurse (RN) and Remedial Massage Therapist (RMT).
While Joanne grew up in rural Western Australia, she gained her knowledge about health and life over the past twenty years by living, learning and working in Perth and then the Eastern States.
In her time away, Joanne spent three years training to qualify as a Registered Nurse and then many subsequent years working in both large and small hospitals in Western Australia, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
Joanne also enjoyed a period of time working in corporate management, gaining significant experience managing human resources and communicating externally with clients and the community.
Joanne furthered her knowledge by undertaking tertiary education in both natural medicine (Bachelor of Health Science) and business (Bachelor of Arts). Joanne has also completed an Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy and a Certificate of Remedial Massage.
Joanne has worked with several emerging technologies in complementary medicine, some of which are not yet available in regional Western Australia (eg, digital medical infrared imaging).
