Being a man is a health risk!

Men have a higher mortality rate than women for nearly all causes of death. The Australian Bureau of Statistics ‘Mortality Atlas Australia’ (December 2002) shows that the average death rate per 100,000 persons includes:
    • Malignant (cancerous) tumours - 237.8 males compared to 146.7 females
    • Ischaemic heart disease - 190 males compared to 119.9 females
    • Accidents - 35.6 males compared to 17.7 females
    • Suicide - 21.9 males compared to 5.5 females
    • Diabetes - 18.8 males compared to 13.6 females
    • Influenza and pneumonia - 13.6 males compared to 11.4 females
    • Motor vehicle traffic accidents - 13.1 males compared to 5.5 females

Men also have higher rates of depression than women:
    • Depressed men are twice as likely to abuse alcohol and drugs as depressed women.
    • Male depression is associated with an increased risk of health disorders, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
    • Life issues - such as the death of a spouse, separation, divorce and unemployment - trigger serious depression in men more often than in women.

Nabih Moussa
B.A. (UNSW), B Ac. (U.K.), Dip Ac. (China), AACMA
Acupuncturist/Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner
Nabih Moussa is a graduate in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) gaining his degree in England in 1980 and China (Nanjing Hospital) 1982. He has been in practice in Sydney's CBD since graduating. Nabih has studied with eminent practitioners and educators from Europe, China, Japan and the U.S. He keeps up to date with recent developments through continuing Professional Development Programmes.

Having been in practice for over twenty-eight years, Nabih has seen in his clinic a steady and noticeable shift away from the old mechanistic male health paradigm, that is, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. The zeitgeist of this decade is the focus on Men’s Health. Men are now recognising their sensitivities and acknowledging their vulnerabilities.

Nabih has developed a deep understanding of the issues confronting the modern male lifestyle. The push and pull of work pressure, the competitive drive to win and succeed, the lack of time to be or do, the quality of air and food, all unhinge and weaken men’s health to the core.

Traditional Chinese Medicine states that disease is a state of imbalance. Nabih sets out to heal the body by restoring its balance. With his skills in acupuncture, Chinese herbs, massage, exercise, dietary therapy, lifestyle coaching and a good ear, you are left feeling whole, vital, focused, informed and at ease.
