NATUROPATH. Larisa Barnes is a Naturopath who uses herbal medicines, nutritional therapy and dietary advice, homoeopathy, massage and flower essences in her practice. SERVICES
As a primary contact practitioner you can come to see me for any physical ailment. I have experience in treating acute illnesses like colds, 'flu, glandular fever, Barmah Forest virus, Ross River virus, cystitis, sprains and strains, as well as more chronic illnesses like hypertension, polycystic ovarian syndrome, thyroid disorders, chronic fatigue, insomnia, Crohn's disease, and nutritional problems in children and adults.
I work with herbal medicine, nutrition, dietary analysis and homoeopathy to provide a thorough treatment plan. I also offer remedial massage, especially if you have muscle tension related to stress, sport or other lifestyle issues. When necessary I can refer you to your GP for blood tests and other medical tests and can work alongside her / him as a complementary practitioner very well. I have experience working with medical practitioners both through co-referral and in a hospital setting.
I was awarded the Warren Brauer Memorial Prize for 2000 in my graduating class. This prize is given to the naturopathy graduate who exhibits a very high level of proficiency and understanding of the practice of homoeopathy. I offer full classical homoeopathic consultations in my clinic separately from naturopathic consultations.
I work in my clinic with my husband Colin Cussel who has been in practice for 23 years. Colin is a chiropractor, osteopath, acupuncturist and very experienced Bowen practitioner. Together we offer complementary treatment for musculoskeletal problems like arthritis, injuries and fibromyalgia, with Colin concentrating on the body work and while I focus on nutritional, herbal and / or homoeopathic treatment.
I am a member of ATMS, member number 16828. Health fund rebates for my services are available from most health funds if you have private health care cover.

QUALIFICATION DETAILS
Bachelor of Naturopathy with Honours (2004)
"The self-perceived effects of massage in palliative care patients". This research project was based at Southern Cross University and St Vincent's Hospital Lismore. I found that massage significantly increased quality of life in palliative care patients by decreasing pain, anxiety, stress, and depression.
