Hawthorn Yoga Centre offers quality Yoga classes for teens, adults & seniors, as well as specialised sessions of prenatal and post-natal yoga and meditation. We teach a dynamic method of Hatha Yoga with the Iyengar precision, in a friendly and non-competitive environment.

The Hawthorn Yoga Centre is a fully equiped yoga school
providing a friendly and pleasant environment to practice yoga. Experience increased strength and flexibility, mental calm & wellbeing.
Situated in the leafy suburb of Hawthorn East, our centre is easily located just off the Freeway near Toorak Road, in between Auburn & Tooronga Road. Our centre is close to public transport and offers ample street parking. We're also close to the surrounding suburbs of Camberwell, Kew, Malvern, Glen Iris, Armadale, & Kooyong.
About Us
The Hawthorn Yoga Centre was established by husband and wife team - Shimon Tchobutaru & Jacqueline Brumley. Together they have over 40 years of collective yoga experience. They have done extensive teaching with a range of different styles of yoga in Australia, Europe & India. Both
have completed Iyengar yoga certification.
Our Teachers
All our teachers are dedicated and experienced. Shimon Tchobutaru, Jacqueline Brumley are both qualified Iyengar Yoga instructors, along with Lee Treloar, Jan Millar, Graeme Gemmell, Carolyn McDonald & Catherine Tinel.

The Hawthorn Yoga centre teaches a Dynamic method of Hatha Yoga with the Iyengar precision. Encouraging postural alignment, balanced muscular action along with steadiness of mind , thus developing effort, intelligence & accuracy.

Beginner 1 Yoga Course - (enrolment only)
For those new to yoga. HYC takes the student through the basic yoga poses, teaches relaxation all in a friendly environment. (non-refundable & non transferable)
Beginner 2 Yoga Course - (enrolment only)
For students having completed a Beginner 1 course and wish to consolidate and refine the basic poses, whilst exploring new ones.
(non-refundable & non transferable)
Level 1 Course (enrolment only)
For students having completed a Beginner 1 & 2 courses. HYC introduces a new range of postures. (non-refundable & non transferable)
Level 11/2 Course (enrolment only)
For students having participated in Level 1 for a year. Hyc teaches the student the practise of inversions. (non-refundable & non transferable)
Level 2 Course (enrolment only)
For students with 18-24 months consistent yoga experience (practise of inversions essential) HYC teaches the student the practise of deeper backbends, forward bends, inversions and variations. (non-refundable & non transferable)
Level 3 Course (enrolment only)
For experienced students only with a strong and established practise. HYC teaches the student the art of deepening, refining and maturing.
Relax & Renew Prenatal (casual attendance)
Emphasis on supported and restorative postures to energise the body and calm the mind. Suited for pregnant woman and those wanting an easy class.
Level 1 Casual Class (casual attendance)
On going Level 1 classes for those who have a good understanding of the practise.
Meditation (enrolment only)
A unique 11/4 hour class discovering inner wisdom and tranquility.

General info on attending a yoga class
Friendly and non-competitive environment.
All ages and levels of fitness welcome.
Wear loose comfortable clothing.
Do not eat 2 hours before class.
Inform your teacher if you are menstruating,
pregnant or of any injuries.

What Is Meditation?
Meditation is the active process of encouraging stillness in the mind. When practising meditation
we temporarily with draw the mind from the daily pressures into an oasis of calm. Studies have shown that anxiety & stress levels can be reduced effectively through meditation, which also has a remarkable healing affect on the physical body.
How often should I meditate?
Even if you only spend a little time meditating you will find it will nourish the mind, gradually developing clarity and awareness. Even a few minutes of meditation each day can drastically improve our ability to cope with everyday life and help us develop tools to remain calm in times of difficulties and challenges.

This special block of 10 meditation sessions will offer the basics, from guided meditations through to specialised meditations for specific purposes.

Relax + Renew (prenatal)
Yoga is a perfect practice for women and the many different stages she goes through her life. From menstruation to pregnancy, post-pregnancy and menopause, this special class will embrace these stages and look at specific yoga practices so that our bodies function in optimum condition. This yoga class is ideal for pregnant women.
Relax + Renew (Prenatal class)
All are welcome to this class, however, it's especially beneficial for women in the different cycles of menstruation, pregnancy & menopause. This class is a panacea for developing a harmonious relationship between mind, body & spirit.
An "easy does it" class using supportive poses to open up various parts of the body, enhance respiration, digestion, circulation and steadiness of mind. Carolyn & Catherine, both experienced pre & postnatal instructors, teach Relax + Renew Prenatal classes every:
Mon - 9.30am - 11.00am ...Room 2 with Catherine
Sat - 2.30pm - 4.00pm ...Room 1 with Carolyn
