SERVICES PHILOSOPHY
I am a solutions-focused practitioner - as a client you present with a 'problem' and as an Acupuncturist, my role is to guide you towards a solution.
WHAT I TREAT
Acupuncturists are probably most famous for treating back, neck and general body pain - and it's true, we can achieve FANTASTIC results with pain management.
But in addition to pain, there is so much more we treat - the list of which is extensive and often surprises those new to the acupuncture experience. Check out my website for more details.
AREAS OF EXPERTISE
I prefer not to call myself a 'specialist' in any given field, as I consider myself a practitioner of diverse expertise. However, I have a number of special interest areas which include insomnia and stess-related disorders, digestive problems, endocrine diseases and reproductive support.
In addition to my clinical practice, I am also a sessional Lecturer in Chinese Medical theory, Oriental Massage and a Clincial Supervisor at the Australian College of Natural Medicine.
SKILLS, TECHNIQUES & SPECIAL TRICKS
My tools of trade include Chinese Acupuncture, Ear Acupuncture, Chinese Cupping Therapy, Electro-Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Western Nutritional Supplements. As part of my solutions-focussed approach, I also like to offer my clients appropriate dietary and lifestyle advice. I also have a network of affiliated practitioners I work in close consultation with including my business partner, Glynis Bretherton whose area of expertise is Clinical Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy and Counselling.
As a practitioner I blend Chinese and Western approaches to Acupuncture. In addition to traditional Chinese Acupuncture, I also work extensively with Ear Acupuncture (or Auricular-Therapy). The practice of Ear Acupuncture was largely developed in France by noted physician, Paul Nogier. It can be used as a free-standing technique, but works beautifully in conjunction with traditional Chinese Acupuncture in the treatment of both acute and chronic conditions.
Ear Acupuncture is now widely used in Acupuncture hospitals in China.
I also work with Chinese Herbal Medicine. Mostly these prescriptions come in easy-to-take herbal pills and capsules. Herbs are a great way to speed up recovery and often continue the great work acupuncture does in between treatments.
CULTURAL EXPERIENCE: DEEPER LEARNING
I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to study Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine in both Australia and China.
To further develop my understanding of Chinese medicine, I have also travelled extensively through Asia to gain a broader understanding of the cultural influences which underpin Chinese Medicine. On a recent trip to Vietnam I spent time in several herbal pharmacies. I also visited countless Chinese Medicine clinics as a willing observer and keen student.
MY CLINIC
My Brisbane clinic, The Healthy Living Centre, is centrally located in leafy Red Hill - it's a great little space within a 120 year old Queenslander. There is ample on-street parking, easy access and a welcoming, supportive and caring environment for those who choose to visit.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
