Madeleine Edgar is a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner & Physiotherapist. She also works with people with back , neck & shoulder pain & neurological problems. Sports people, dancers & musicians with RSI can benefit from the Method too.

She & her husband Tom, who is also a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, have weekly Awareness Though Movement classes & teach Functional Integration (private lessons).

Madeleine has recently published a simple introductory workbook on the FM called
Marvellous Movement: ReMIND Your Body using the Feldenkrais Method® Daily, which is available directly from her at $35.00 plus postage.

About the Feldenkrais Method®

The FM is a revolutionary bodymind improvement system. It was developed over a period of 50 years by acclaimed Israeli Engineer & Physicist, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais D.Sc.(1904-1984) He established that functioning well depends on our internal understanding of ourselves & our actions. The FM cultivates a uniquely human capacity for self improvement, through the conscious exploration of natural body movement.

Many people think this is one of the most exciting educational and therapeutic methods developed in our time. It is thoroughly researched & has a sound neurophysiological basis. People who can benefit are those recovering from injury or strokes, everyone involved in precise movement skills, such as musicians, dancers, actors, athletes & those who use repetitive actions all day, such as computer workers or machine operators.

Moshe believed that many of the problems we put down to aging are really due to poor usage of the body over time. Older people can improve their balance , co-ordination, flexibility & the quality of their lives with this safe, gentle Method.

About Awareness Through Movement™ Classes (ATM)

Students are guided to re-experience simple non-habitual movement sequences. Awareness is focussed on breathing, co-ordination and self image. We challenge old habits about “trying harder” by emphasizing the quality of movement and sensing graceful, efficient movements without pain. Each lesson is different and builds natural flexibility and balance at the students’ own pace.
Lessons are done in all the positions a human can use (mostly lying on the floor, but we do many lessons sitting in a chair ,kneeling or in standing) and all students work within their own comfort range and rest when they need to. There is no pressure to “achieve” but to arouse our curiosity about how we behave and explore ourselves from the inside out, not the outside in! At the end of a lesson, students often sense the support of their well aligned skeleton and how much freer their movements are. This flows into their daily lives.

Some people come to the Method as a form of self discovery, to learn more about themselves & to enhance their general well being.( the FM does lower high blood pressure)

We also present Workshops for special purposes, such as Voice for speakers and singers, for dancers, people with osteoporosis for optimal alignment of bones, for people with pelvic floor problems and sitting lessons for people who work with computers etc. and for athletes. These can be in the form of 1/2 day, whole day or 2 days, or as a series of one hour classes.

About Functional Integration™ Lessons (FI)


These are for people with a specific need. The student lies fully clothed on a low table & is subtly guided to sense a wider variety of neuromuscular responses & encouraged to notice habitual movement patterns. Newly felt options are then integrated with everyday functions. Not manipulation, not treatment this is a process which involves the participant in self correction. You will notice that you are moving more easily through Life!
