Northern Beaches Somatic Therapies - Rolfing, structural integration and postural alignment, Sydney

'You don't have to feel bad to feel better!'

Although modern manual therapies are highly successful in treating a huge range of physical problems and painful conditions, they can also enrich the life of those who are not suffering significant problems - giving a sense of ease, poise, effortlessness and even joy in movement.

John Smith is an experienced practitioner, trained in a diverse range of therapies that can address your unique needs:

RolfingŪ is a scientifically validated system of soft-tissue manipulation and postural education. It offers a unique way of improving your postural alignment, giving you more freedom of movement, and dealing with the nagging pains that so often arise from poor posture and and overused muscles. Traditionally it consists of about 10 sessions of work, each taking 90 minutes. Practitioners often take before/after photos of their clients to document the postural improvements as they evolve.

The FeldenkraisŪ Method is an educational approach to improving movement, posture and breathing. It works with your habits of tension and movement and offers new options. It aims to promote free, elegant and painfree movement by helping people discover their old, inefficient and often tense muscular patterns and offering newer options for being.

TragerŪ work is one of the most effective means of achieving deep relaxation. It consists of gentle rocking and stretching, and most clients find it more relaxing than massage. Great for stress relief.

CranioSacral therapy consists of very subtle work with the cranial rhythm. It was popularised by the osteopath, John Upledger, whose institute now teaches this therapy internationally. It has found to be useful for a huge range of conditions including migraine, TMJ problems, endogenous depression and unresolved physical traumas such as whiplash.

Remedial massage John is also available to do general postural assessments, deep tissue massage, sports and remedial work. And as part of my Rolfing and deep tissue sessions, I assist clients in finding an appropriate stretching and exercise regimen to maintain the benefits they gain from the sessions.

Fees:

$70 for 1 hour sessions
$100 for 90 minute sessions (Rolfing), and
$120 for 2 hour sessions (such as the first Rolfing appointment)

Health Fund rebates Student and pensioner discounts are available, and since I am registered with the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS provider number 9242) you can obtain significant rebates from most health funds.

Each week I offer some free 1/2 hour sessions of Rolfing work to people who would like to try the work before committing to a full session. Please ring if this interests you.
