About Essential Yoga Classes
The aim of every practice in an Essential Yoga Class is to strengthen and stretch EVERY major muscle group, giving a feeling of being deeply massaged. An additional aim is to clear and calm the mind, giving a meditative effect.
The style of Yoga is strong and flowing with an emphasis on correct anatomical alignment, core stability, and working safely within each pose. Students are encouraged to work to their own individual "edge". Variations of poses are given with simpler and harder versions.
In this way beginners and experienced students can be in the same class.
Benefits of Regular Essential Yoga Classes
- Deep, whole body massaging effect.
- Builds deep muscular strength and tone.
- Improvement in 'core' stability - strength and support in pelvic floor, abdominal, waist and lower back areas.
- Clearer, calmer and more focused mind.
- Stress Release
- Improvement in overall health - physical and psychological
About Jackie Clarke - the teacher
In 1991 while studying for a psychology degree at the University of Western Australia I took up Yoga Classes. I had always loved to exercise and was a member of the gym, but yoga classes made me feel better then any other exercise ever had.
My muscles felt a deeper strength and tone from yoga as well as the bonus of feeling looser, more relaxed and happy in general. I haven't been to the gym since!
After completing a Bachelor of Psychology degree, rather than go on to become a clinical psychologist I decided to study yoga. I completed a teacher training at the Transformational Yoga Institute in Perth and then stayed at the Satyananda Yoga Ashram in NSW for further teaching training. I am constantly attending the workshops and and intensives of world class yoga teachers. Some of these include B. K. S. Iyengar, Gita Iyengar, Donna Farhi, T. K. V. Desikachar and Simon Borg-Olivier.
The main influences on my classes at Essential Yoga are Iyengar, Ashtanga and Yoga Synergy styles of hatha yoga.
In 1996 I started teaching regular classes in Merewether N. S. W. Then in 2000 I moved home to W. A. and settled in Dunsborough due to a love of surfing. I run classes in Dunsborough and Busselton and always welcome new students into any of my classes. I absolutely love teaching yoga and seeing the positive changes in my students. It is a passion of mine and I can see myself still teaching yoga when I am well into my eighties!
