  • Chinese herbal medicine
  • Chinese massage

    Acupuncture
A clinically proven and highly effective therapy that dates back thousands of years to ancient China. Acupuncture helps to balance, increase Qi or energy flow and restore harmony within the body.
Acupuncture offers a welcome relief to pain, injury, symptoms of disease and emotional imbalance.
Our acupuncturist also offers laser acupoint therapy for those shy of needles and for the treatment of children, providing pain and drug-free managment for many health issues.

Quiting smoking? Acupuncture is an incredibly effective aid for those wishing to quit, greatly reducing cravings and withdrawl symptoms.

    Moxibustion
Moxibustion is method whereby moxa punk (mugwort) or other herbs are burnt on or above the skin at acupuncture points or cold affected areas.
The heat warms the Ki and blood in the channels and thus dispels cold and dampness. Its nature is pure Yang and thus can restore damaged Yang. Apart from improving circulation and metabolism, Moxibustion can also address problems such as arthritis, asthma, diarrhea, vomitting and abdominal pain as well as certain gynecological disorders.

    Ginger Compress
    (Recommended time 1 hour)
The ginger compress is one of the most pleasant treatments to recieve. The warming nature of ginger can be introduced externally to the body via a compress. This method greatly increases blood flow to the areas been treated, thus ridding the area of cold and / or dampness which are the factors restricting circulation.

    Cupping
    (Recommended time ˝ Hour)
Cupping is a method of treating disease by causing local congestion. A partial vacuum is created in jars, usually by means of heat, which are then applied to the skin, drawing up underlying tissues and forming blood stasis.

    Ear Candling
    (Recommended time ˝ hour)
The healing properties of the Hopi Ear candle have their foundation in two primary physical actions. Firstly, the slight underpressure inside the candle and the vibration of the rising air column serve to gently massage the ear drum and promote secretion in the frontal and paranasal sinuses, regulating ear pressure. Secondly, the locally applied warmth stimulates vascularisation and reinforces the flow of lymph.

    Shiatsu Therapy
A form of therapeutic bodywork from Japan: Shiatsu was developed primarily from the ancient and profound system of classical Chinese medicine and also incorporates principles of anatomy, physiology and pathology.

Shiatsu therapy involves applying pressure with fingers, palms, elbows and feet along the body’s energy meridians thus stimulating the innate ability for self healing.

Shiatsu is performed on a futon on the floor, with the client fully clothed. For this reason we prefer that you wear loose, comfortable clothing. An initial assessment will be made of your general health. This will include health related questions, and TCM pulse, tongue and Hara (stomach) palpation diagnosis.

A treatment may involve moxa therapy and cupping as an adjunct to acupressure. Advance bookings must be made.

Our massage oils are pure essential oils supplied by Ahimsa.
Ahimsa is a sanskrit word meaning “reverence for life “.
It means literally ’non killing’ or ‘non harming’ and denotes non –violence in thought and deed.
Ahimsa is the active state of living in harmony.

“health must be made by yourself,
one who makes himself healthy knows the law of choice.
He can change sickness into health,
Sadness into joy and enemy into friend,
    He is a free man”

    OUR CONCEPT

The concept of “Outside In”, acknowledges the importance of everything we do – to or with our bodies.

Life for most is a race. Fast paced and stressful. As a result exterior influences effect our health, our level of fitness and our state of emotion. Hence, modern society tends to create a mind body connection whether we like it or not.

From the “Outside In” stress precipitates tension and ultimately disease process in many forms. The catch is from the “Inside Out”, our unresolved emotional issues also have the same effect.

So we might say, that what ever effects us on the outside, reflects on the inside or vice versa.

Positive external influences also create positive internal changes both physically and mentally. It is also obvious that positive internal health and attitudes reflect a healthy and fit exterior.

Thus the importance of a balanced diet, exercise, rest and a happy and relaxed lifestyle.

The emphasis is on the care of the mind, body and soul.

From the “Outside In”, our therapists will relax, relieve stress, treat injury and assist healing creating a positive feeling from the “Inside Out”.

    ~

Therapy at “Outside In” is client and treatment orientated rather than style orientated. Treatment is aimed at assisting the healing of the clients presenting conditions with aim to longevity in health and wellness through both preventive medicine and lifestyle changes.

    About Kathryn Cross

As a Registered Nurse I began working with cancer in the early 1980’s.

Following clinical rotation in Medical and Surgical areas of nursing I became a member of a professorial unit for the teaching Hospital to the University of Tasmania.

My clinical experience in brief consisted of:

  • Assisting in the training of medical and nursing students
  • Ward staff member providing care to both Oncology and Haematology clients
  • Out patient care of Oncology clients including monitoring research of drug trials
  • Administration of treatment regimes, blood screening and monitoring of client data
  • Management of the cell separator unit for donor blood collection and apheresis procedures
  • Community health and palliative care
  • Experience in medical and surgical units including Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Neurosurgery and plastics as examples

Since then the perception of disease and the alternatives to treatment have become less mystified and the public have become more open to natural therapies. As a therapist, I have worked with Traditional Western or conventional medicine in both the public and private hospital sectors. I have seen over the years a gradual acceptance for less conventional forms of therapy with the introduction of practices such as massage, Reiki and acupuncture into hospitals and in particular as adjuncts to cancer treatments.

Knowledge and medicine can combat a cancer cell, however as a remedial therapist, I now combine my life experiences and Oncology nursing background with oriental and remedial techniques in assisting the treatment of clients. The aim is to heal the person rather than just the disease process itself.

My experience with Western medicine, Eastern influences and natural therapies has lead to my belief that we each offer our individual form of therapy, which in some instances may be a combination of all our learning. For this reason I have tried to keep our clinic advertising simple and as such have not listed all therapeutic possibilities.

It is my belief that the potential for healing lies within the client. The practitioner is merely the facilitator and the therapeutic style of choice is the connection between the subconscious and the choice for physical or emotional healing. The initiation of the healing begins with the client’s conscious or unconscious decision to accept treatment as therapeutically beneficial. The healing is enhanced by the client’s choice to live with passion, happiness and wellness.

I offer Medical / remedial massage for a range of mechanical conditions, discomfort and systemic disease, including assisting in lymphoedema and cancer support.

I also work with elite athletes, drawing upon my own experience competing in Triathlon and offer sports therapy for preparation, recovery and for the treatment of musculoskeletal problems.

My greatest dilemma is that I cannot always see my clients without an advanced booking. For this reason I have created further treatment opportunity with alternate staff members.
