One thing I have learnt from many years in clinical practice is that our bodies are very complex, with all of our bodily systems capable of causing pain, injury or malfunction. My passion & lifelong goal is to bring together a treatment therapy that, by its wholistic nature, addresses the many common pain & injury presentations that people seek out relief for. "Garfield Soft -Tissue Therapy" goes a long way towards this achievement. If you have tried unsuccessfully to resolve your problem my therapy may be the answer. I will usually know within one or two treatments. Most problems can be improved or resolved in three to six treatments. Some I may not be able to help & others will require ongoing attention. These are often the people that thought nothing could be of help to them. Don't get too confused by my detailed list of services. I am the professional, I will know the best treatment options for you (I may even refer you to another therapy or therapist should I believe you could get a better result). John Garfield, proprietor of Burleigh Natural Therapies commenced his training in natural therapies as a Remedial Masseur specializing in treating sports & general injuries. He achieved a high level of success in this area. His thirst for more knowledge has led him to the many osteopathic based therapies & principles some of which are detailed below. John no longer preforms remedial massage and can put you in touch with one of the excellent massage therapists who also run their business from Burleigh Natural Therapies.

A gentle & effective treatment for a wide range of muscular problems.This is a very relaxing non oil technique using holding points & rolls across muscles to return the body to its natural balance, resulting in pain relief, improved bodily function & enhanced health & wellbeing.Developed by world famous bodyworker, Australian Tom Bowen.
GARFIELD SOFT-TISSUE THERAPY
What does the term Soft -Tissue mean?
Soft -Tissue is our Muscles, Tendons, Ligaments & Fascia (connective tissue).
Garfield Soft-Tissue Therapy as practiced by Remedial Therapist John Garfield was born out of the need to find a more “complete” therapy that addresses our bodily systems, all of which are capable of instigating pain we usually interpret as only muscular or skeletal. It has strong foundations in many of the proven therapies , including Bowen Therapy, Remedial Therapies, Soft-Tissue Therapy, along with modalities of osteopathic origin, being Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, Muscle Energy Technique and Strain Counterstrain. Treatment mostly resembles Bowen Therapy. The inclusion of the above listed modalities offers much more scope for a successful outcome. This holistic approach has helped many people where other methods have failed, and when coupled with John’s unique and simplistic Muscle Re-education Program, goes a long way in lessening the likelihood of the symptoms returning. It represents over a decade of study & clinical practice.

EMMETT TECHNIQUE
Another Australian modality which is gentle & non-invasive, used to treat a wide range of muscular problems.It incorporates a unique sequence of muscle activation points to correct muscular dysfunction, realign the body, and relieve pain. Developed by Ross Emmett, renowned bodyworker & senior Bowen Therapy teacher.
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Improving the Body's drainage of toxins & its Immune System. It is my belief that Bowen Therapy & Emmett Technique are the most advanced forms of Lymphatic Drainage! Every Bowen treatment strongly influences the Lymphatic System, & along with Emmett Technique have lymphatic techniques which can be included to address specific areas of concern. e.g. Respiratory, Sinus, Kidney, & Limbs.
SPORTS INJURY THERAPY
As "Garfield Soft-Tissue Therapy", Bowen Therapy & Emmett Technique excel in the treatment of muscular injuries they are ideally suited for many sports related injuries & their prevention. Note it is our tight &/or injured muscles that are very capable of pulling our bones out of alignment via their tendon attachments to our bones! For this reason skeletal work without addressing the muscles can lead to the problem reoccurring. The muscles simply pull the bones back out of alignment ! Once the muscles are returned to their natural balance skeletal alignment is usually the outcome.
TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
Digit pressure is used to deactivate painful muscles that can refer pain to other parts of the body. An excellent therapy for treating referred pain. I have found with my intense studies of Bowen Therapy & Emmett Technique that I rarely need to use Trigger Point Therapy.If required it is incorporared into a session of "Garfield Soft-Tissue Therapy".
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Is a gentle, non-invasive hands on therapy for removing restrictions from the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, the bones of the cranium and spinal column as well as the connective tissue throughout the body. The technique is based on the principle that the motion of the subtle pulses of the cerebral spinal fluid (the fluid system that nurtures our central nervous system, from the brain to the tailbone) needs to be as free as possible for healthy functioning.
Injuries, muscular strain, and tension can affect this cranial motion both locally and throughout the body via the connective tissue network.
With only a pressure of 5-10 grams of tactile touch the CranioSacral Therapist identifies and releases these restrictions which balances the body enabling homeostasis. (Homeostasis is the natural balance within the body, which is essential for optimal health ).Every "Garfield Soft -Tissue Therapy" treatment has some Cranio work to a greater or lesser degree. You will be evaluated as to whether you need standalone Cranio work on your initial assessment.
VISCERAL MANIPULATION
Referred to as THE MISSING LINK IN MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN.Visceral Manipulation is a very gentle, highly precise therapy refined over the last 25 years, and is being continually researched by its modern developer, French Osteopath Jean-Pierre Barral. Dr Barral discovered that a large percentage of musculoskeletal pain in the body was influenced or caused by tightness of the connective tissues surrounding our organs. These connective tissues offer support to the organs but must not be too tight as to hinder the organs natural inherent movement. To do so can adversely affect the optimum function of that organ and also commonly refer pain to other parts of the body. Common examples are: [Colon - Sciatic pain] - [Liver - right shoulder restriction] – [Stomach - left shoulder restriction] – [Kidneys - lower back pain] - [Bladder- sacral pain] - [Lungs - neck pain].
