DEFINITION OF MODALITIES ON OFFER:
Remedial Massage (Health Rebates Available - Most Health Funds) - This describes the use of a wide range of diagnostic techniques to treat a wide variety of ailments. A Remedial therapist has the ability to provide a comprehensive treatment plan based on their ability to determine the underlying cause of many musculo-skeletal problems. This type of physical therapy works intensively with deep tissue massage and mobilisation techniques on localized areas of your body. Remedial treatments range from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the level of dysfunction.
Traditional Thai Massage (TTM) or Thai yoga therapy is an ancient healing art. An ingenious combination of yoga, acupressure, ayurveda and meditation; clients labeled this as 'the best massage in the world', it balances & invigorates the whole body. The focus is to balance the body, mind and spiritual aspects of the individual. As with acupressure and shiatsu, the Thai massage operates on the understanding there is a network of energy lines. In Thai massage these are known as SEN. These networks of energy lines distribute the life energy throughout the body. If any of these energy lines become blocked, illness sets in. It is effective in treating headaches, shoulder and upper back tensions, joint and soft tissue injury, digestive upsets, insomnia and anxiety.
To get the full benefit of Thai massage, a full 90-120 minutes full body treatment is applied, it can also be a therapy to treat a broad range of physical discomforts and stress related disorders.
Thai massage is performed with the recipient in loose clothing, lying on a comfortable massage mat. Employing the tools of his/her feet, arms, hands, elbows and knees, the Thai practitioner will work along the energy lines to remove blockages using pressure point techniques and intricate movements of gentle rocking, deep stretching and compression.
Gua Sha - A spoon or buffalo horn is used to stimulate the meridians and stir up Qi in the meridians. This helps regulate and open the channels. The purpose of the scraping method is to draw the injury out of the body. In traditional Chinese medicinal philosophy, sha is considered to be an accumulation of heat and blood at the subcutaneous levels of the body. Gua sha is commonly practiced in Vietnam, China and Indonesia and is mainly used as a form of preventive medicine or for acute conditions such as chills, fevers and the common colds as well as muscular and skeletal injuries.
Cupping (Eastern and Western) - A flame is used to take the oxygen out of a glass cup and create a suction effect when it is applied to the body. Cups are applied to the body where there is local pain or appears to be stasis. When the blood and lymph circulation is sluggish waste bi-products start to build up and cause stagnation in the system. Cupping moves vital energy to the area of pain and draws blood stagnation out. Round marks are sometimes left after cupping. These usually disappear after 3-7 days. Cupping has long been used throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. Cupping is good for tired aching muscles, common colds, sacroiliac pain, general back pain, digestive problems, cellulite*, scar tissues, muscular-skeletal conditions and menstrual problems. *Cups are fantastic for detoxifying, tightening and toning tissue.
Burmese Massage - This is very similar to traditional Thai massage. It is performed on a futon with the recipient wearing loose comfortable clothing. The Burmese massage has a different feeling to that of traditional Thai. The massage system relies on a circular palming method, up and down the body to stimulate life force energy. The massage is deeply therapeutic, relaxing and is finished off with a series of yoga stretches to lengthen and relax muscles.
Reiki - The meaning of Reiki is “universal life force”. Everything in the universe has a vibrational or energetic pattern. In this treatment hands are laid on the body and energy (“Ki”) is channeled into the person having the treatment. The treatment is guided by a universal spirit or spiritual nature ("Rei") — Energy flows through the practitioners palms to heal a person wherever they may need it. It acts on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels.
Thai Cupping Massage - This one hour treatment combines Thai massage and cupping. First the sen lines or network energy lines are opened up with a Thai massage sequence and then cups are applied to the acupressure points on the back. The cups are left in place for around 10 to 15 minutes. While the cups are in place the practitioner works on the leg area. This treatment is relaxing and at the same time increases energy because it is eliminating blockages and stagnation in the body.
Sports Massage - Massage treatment can accelerate the removal of inflammatory by-products and improve the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells. It increases circulation, lymphatic flow and decreases oedema. Special techniques aid in decreasing adhesions that are the result of inflammation and that may restrict joint mobility. Massage will benefit preparation for sporting activities; reduce fatigue, sprains, strains, and dislocations.
Ear Candling - is used primarily for cleaning the ears and to promote a healthy atmosphere in the ear, inner ear, sinus cavities, Eustachian tubes, glands and throat. There are , however, several other benefits. The process can regulate pressure, assist with nasal drip, sinusitis, catarrh, migraines, some forms fo hearing loss, restoration of equilibrium, relieving tinnitus, vertigo, swimmers ear, just to name a few.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage - This is a gentle and rhythmic light massage of the skin, which stimulates the lymph nodes to open and drain. The treatment is very relaxing and non-aggressive. A typical session will involve drainage of the neck, abdomen, trunk and extremities. It lasts approximately 40 to 60 minutes, depending on the severity and extent of the lymphoedema. It is good for women who have breast surgery involving the lymph glands.
Therapeutic Massage - also known as Swedish massage. This massage is the classic massage which uses long flowing strokes usually in the direction of the heart. It is designed to increase circulation and blood flow. There are six basic strokes: effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement, compression and vibration. Oil, cream, or lotion is used to reduce friction and allow smooth strokes.
Pregnancy Massage - A massage technique specifically designed for pregnant women to help relieve common pregnancy discomforts and promote mother and baby's wellbeing. Pregnancy massage is very gentle and effective and has many benefits for the mother, such as increasing energy, easing aches and pains, slowing the process of varicose veins, reducing fluid retention and releasing stress. Pregnancy massage can also help labour preparation by teaching the mother to consciously release tension and focus on relaxation breathing techniques, as well as releasing tension in the lower back and abdomen.
