Shiatsu: enhancing the art of life
Shiatsu is a form of bodywork, highly regarded in Eastern countries and increasingly valued in the West as an effective therapeutic technique.
With a theoretical basis in Chinese Medicine, the aim of this Japanese-style treatment is to balance the body’s energy system. The shiatsu therapist determines areas of imbalance which may be causing ill health or which have the potential to do so if left unrecognized.
The therapist uses hands, thumbs, elbows to apply pressure to the body. Particular attention is paid to acupressure points and energetic pathways whilst working also with the nervous system, the circulatory system and the musculature. Each shiatsu treatment is specific to each client and may also include dietary, lifestyle and exercise options. Clients remain fully clothed throughout the session.
Shiatsu is used to alleviate and prevent conditions such as stress, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, headache, backache, sciatica, menstrual and menopausal syndromes…….Clients experience deep relaxation as tension is released.
Shiatsu during pregnancy nourishes the energy of mother and baby, treats existing conditions and supports a healthy and natural pregnancy and birth. Alex is particularly interested in this area and has worked with many pregnant women.
A complete healing system in itself, shiatsu is respectful of all healing systems and complements most other forms of treatment.
