PRE-NATAL YOGA
Anytime from 12 weeks of your pregnancy, is a good time to start. Yoga can be practiced, with gentler variations up until or beyond your due date. It is recommended that yoga practice not be commenced, without previous yoga experience, in the last stages of pregnancy.
The classes are small with a maximum of 13, to ensure that each posture (asana) is approached consciously and therefore safely.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN A CLASS...
The Pre-natal Yoga classes run for 1 1/2 hours.
This begins with Pranayama - Breath Awareness, then gentle stretching, asana (postures) that focus on developing strength and flexibility and body awareness. This increases blood flow to cells, tissue, muscles and organs, creating suppleness, strength and calmness, through ease and gentle flow of the breath. Many discomforts of pregnancy can be addressed or avoided by preventative care; including oedema, constipation, indigestion and heartburn, headaches. The body/mind feels more balanced and in harmony, more able to deal with emotional/stressful situations. Of course, your baby also receives all of these benefits.
Areas of particular focus are the pelvic floor muscles and the pelvis, optimal foetal positioning and active birth philosophies (ways in which to give your baby the opportunity to position itself well for birth and to use your own instinctual behaviour and gravity friendly positioning, to create a more effective and positive birth experience).
The class concludes with 15-20 minutes of guided relaxation/visualization, enabling you to integrate body/mind.
CLASS TIMES: TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS, 5.30 - 7PM
FEES: $120 - 10 WK (FULL TERM); $75, 5 WEEK (1/2 TERM) or **CASUAL - $17 (except in Terms 1 and 4)
MUMS & BUBS (POST-NATAL) YOGA...
The Mums & Bubs class is an hour in length, with the option to remain and share a cuppa, refreshment and a little socialisation. A lovely way of meeting other new mums in a relaxed and supportive environment.
WHEN TO COMMENCE:
Commencing, anytime from 4 - 6 weeks (some women prefer to wait until their 6 week post-natal check-up) after your baby's birth, dependent upon the type of birth you have experienced; will give you the opportunity to adopt a gentle approach to renewing or beginning an exercise routine.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN A CLASS...
The aim of this class is to provide communication, interaction, connection and fun between yourself and your baby.
The content of the class is kept fairly flexible, and provides 'baby yoga'; combining gentle stretching techniques, nursery rhymes and a sequence that addresses your baby's developmental needs by engaging him or her in exercises that encourage head, neck, back and leg strength, cross-brain and sensory awareness development. This assists your baby with future rolling, sitting and crawling, standing then walking.
The main focus of the class is 'yoga for mum'. Aiming to provide you with some gentle stretching and strengthening postures for the abdomen, back, pelvic floor and of course, your baby can be involved in as much or as little of the routine, as you choose.
It can sometimes take a couple of classes before your baby (and yourself) becomes completely comfortable in this new environment, and may just need extra settling and reassurance, during this time.
You will find the benefits for yourself and your baby, so very rewarding and many Mums find that it is easy to incorporate this new way of interacting with their baby into their daily routine.
WHAT TO BRING & WEAR
FOR YOU, bring along some water and wear loose, comfortable/stretchy clothing. Oh and remember to bring your 'sense of humour' ... definitely a must!!
FOR YOUR BABY, Babies are placed on a blanket on the floor for the duration of the class (or nursed if needing settling). Bring a cloth nappy or hand-towel and the usual requirements... nappies, change of clothes, etc.
CLASS TIMES: WEDNESDAYS, 10.00 - 11.00
FEES: $120 - 10 WEEK (FULL TERM); $75 - 5 WEEK (HALF TERM) or
**CASUAL - $17 (except in Terms 1 and 4)

PREGNANCY & POST-NATAL MASSAGE
Due to the hormonal and therefore structural changes brought about by the physical and emotional adaptations of pregnancy; this can often create a period of adjustment, realignment and imbalance.
A massage during pregnancy anytime from 12 weeks, is a wonderful way of addressing these imbalances.
The use of a 'Bellybag', enhances the relaxation component of the massage, allowing you to lay prone (face down) during part of the massage, providing full support for yourself and her baby. Aromatherapy oils, specific for pregnancy, may be used to enhance the benefits of the massage.
Massage during pregnancy increases circulation, can slow down the effects of extra load on the kidneys and the heart and address oedema and varicosities. Muscular tension that cause structural imbalances, headaches and sciatic pain can also be relieved. The nervous system has the opportunity to 'slow down', creating a sense of calm and a deeper level of relaxation. This in turn reduces blood pressure, slows and calms the breath, increases endorphins, reduces adrenalin; which also provides obvious benefits to your baby, as it crosses the placenta.
Massage during the post-partum period, is also a wonderful way to give your 'post-natal' body a treat, as many hormonal and structural changes take place in the first weeks and months after your baby's birth. The 'belly bag' may still be used, dependant upon a woman's birth experience and the level of comfort required.
During all treatments, lighting is kept low, relaxation music is played and you are covered by soft towels or sheets, apart from the area of your body being massaged.
MATERNITY REFLEXOLOGY
Working on the principle that the feet reflect the body, by providing a specific system of pressure point massage, the body's natural healing ability is given the opportunity to come back to homeostasis (balance).
Many discomforts of pregnancy can be addressed through reflexology from 12 weeks of pregnancy.
From 35 - 36 weeks, a weekly 1/2 hour treatment can begin to 'prime' the body for labour, by focusing on the internal pelvis, softening of the cervix, addressing adrenal issues that can often inhibit the onset of labour because it reduces the oxytocin response, which is the hormone that triggers labour.
TREATMENT FEES
1 Hour Treatment = $60.00
1/2 Hour Treatment = $45.00
Forms of payment accepted are cash, cheque or arrangements can be made for internet banking.
Treatments are available Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays and 2 x Saturdays per month.
Part of your treatment may be covered by your Private Health Fund. Please check with your Fund and your level of cover.
GIFT VOUCHERS are also available.
