Lymphatic Drainage, Lymphoedema Therapist & Deep Lymphatic Therapy

What is Lymphatic Drainage?

Lymphatic drainage means stimulation of the lymphatic system. This system is as important as the cardiovascular system and is the major ‘garbage removal’ system of the body. If it becomes clogged and congested, nothing else will work as well as it should.

The body needs to remove excess toxins. The lymphatic system, in conjunction with the liver, is the primary way this is achieved. It is an integral part of the immune system, and the lymph nodes (glands) are major defence sites, where large numbers of macrophages (engulfers of toxins & germs), lymphocytes (B, T and K (killer) cells) are housed. Working with the kidneys, the lymphatic system controls the fluid balance of the body. It provides the transport for long chain fatty acids and HDL (the ‘good’ cholesterol so important to healthy cardiac function).

Research (reported at the 2001 World Congress for Microcirculation, Sydney) indicates that 90% of fluid return from body tissues occurs through the lymph nodes and lymphatic system. Any reduction in lymphatic transport capacity is even more significant than was previously realised.

Why have it done?
No wonder there are problems when lymphatic dysfunction occurs! Some examples:
  • Fluid retention – no matter how hard you diet you still can’t lose ‘weight’

  • Swelling in a particular area - arms (often after lumpectomy/mastectomy), legs, thighs, ankles

  • Head problems – sinus, ‘fuzzy’ head, blocked ears, ‘glue’ ear & upper respiratory catarrh, aching eyes, ‘bags’ under the eyes, headaches unrelated to spinal misalignment, swollen face, eyes, heavy eyelids (not caused by muscular dysfunction), ‘double’ chin

  • Breasts – swollen, heavy, ropey or sore

  • Swollen gut, feeling of abdominal distension.
Strangely, not all lymphatic problems produce swelling or obvious pooling of fluid.
Examples are: -

  • Lumps in neck, throat, under armpits or groin (often post glandular fever or other infection)

  • Toxicity – after illness or chemical exposure

  • Persistent malaise and lack of energy - often related to exposure to abnormal electromagnetic fields (EMF’s). It is known that lymphocytes are particularly sensitive to these stressors.
Physical stimulation of the lymphatic system is a potent and effective complementary therapy.
This type of treatment is best undertaken in conjunction with treatment from a Naturopath or Doctor.

Rosemary uses an innovative approach, which targets the deep lymphatic system. Clients are treated holistically and are carefully supported before, during and after session with clinic nutrition, aromatherapy and kidney/liver support. Magnetic Field Therapy is included with treatment as required.

Case histories include:

  • Clients with heavy, swollen breasts have reduced one to two bra sizes, after just three to four sessions. Soreness eased and breast lumpiness lessened.

  • Clothing became looser. People have gone down one to over three dress sizes after several months of regular therapy.

  • Swollen arms and legs have been successfully treated without the use of compression garments.

  • “Bags” under eyes and “double” chins (both pooling of fluid) have disappeared.

  • Asthma and breathing problems have been alleviated after treatment.

  • The incidence of post-treatment discomfort has been greatly reduced through the introduction of therapy specifically targeting the deep lymphatic system.

  • Clients consistently report that their energy levels have improved after session.
How often do treatments need to be?

Lymphatic congestion is associated with some major, chronic conditions. For this reason, an initial series of treatment sessions may be necessary – usually between 3 and 6 treatments. These are offered at a discounted rate.

Further sessions can then be spaced further apart - once every six weeks is a good maintenance program.

A single treatment session or just coming when it is possible, can still be helpful.

What are the possible results?

  • Energy levels improve

  • Swelling goes down

  • Symptoms improve

  • Pain decreases

  • You feel better!
