Individual counselling
Counselling is a type of individual therapy that helps clients deal with psychological issues. Counsellors use professional listening skills, structured dialogue, emotional support and insight to help identify problems and explore solutions with clients.
Counselling can help you:
maintain a healthy work / family balance
manage painful emotions with integrity
set personal boundaries and act assertively
resolve troubled relationships and enrich existing ones
develop valued long-term relationships
overcome negative thinking and manage anxiety
recognise unhelpful patterns, let go of old fears, and enjoy the moment
manage life transitions and achieve goals
Some problems are better managed when people get support from others in a similar situation. In such cases we may recommend counselling in groups of 5 to 12 participants.
Individual and group sessions can typically cover these issues:
anxiety
depression
stress management
coping skills
communication and assertiveness skills
relationships
anger management
self steem and personal identity
Psychological assessment
Psychological assessment measures things such as personality, career aptitudes, personal strenghts, and intellectual and other abilities.
In children, psychological assessment is helpful in understanding problems at school. It is also used for career guidance and to manage life transitions.
Assessment reports can be provided to meet the protocols of Workcover, TAC, the Victims Referral and Assistance Service, Medicare and the legal system.
