Remedial Massage
 |
Remedial Massage effects the mechanical release of muscular tension, promoting blood circulation and passive stretching of limbs and joints, thus promoting healing and restoring a normal function.
This massage utilises skilled techniques to treat specific musculoskeletal problems and injuries, using the stimulating or sedating techniques of massage, such as effleurage, tapotement and friction, as well as passive movements, stretches and percussion technique. |
Sport Massage:
 | A constant build up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses on the joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves.
Problems that develop often go undiagnosed until they are serious enough to cause the athlete discomfort and impede performance. The skilled massage therapist should be able to detect variations in soft tissue and by using the correct techniques help the athlete maintain a much healthier physical state.
Sport massage when applied skilfully, is a most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculoskeletal system. Received regularly this may help athletes prevent injuries, which might otherwise be caused by overuse.
It may therefore be reasonably claimed that one of the greatest benefits of sports massage is in helping prevent injury, aid recovery and enhance athletic performance. |
Myofascial Release:
 | Myofascial Release is a therapeutic treatment which uses a gentle form of stretching to treat a variety of soft tissue problems, producing a profound healing effect upon the body tissues, eliminating pain and restoring function. |
Craniosacral Therapy:
 | Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the craniosacral system. Therapists tune into the craniosacral rhythm (which can be felt at different sites around the body) and evaluate the skull for symmetry of the cranial bones and the flow of the cerebral spinal fluid. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. |
Abnormal muscle tone has a number of effects:
Impaired delivery of nutrients and oxygen to cells.
Slow removal/accumulation of metabolites.
Development of bio-mechanical abnormalities if muscle tightness is asymmetrical.
Excessive forces at the musculotendinous junction.
Excessive tension on the soft tissue/bone interface.
Compromised ability of soft tissue to elongate, absorb shock, stress or strain.
Impaired Proprioception.
Mechanical activation of nociceptors.
Irritation to unresolved soft tissue lesions.
Repetitive microtrauma leading to increased connective tissue and cross linkages.
Decreased lung ventilation or increased cost in respiration.
