NO WHEELCHAIR IN SIGHT
By GLORIA MELTZER
Wellbing: issue 106 Nov/Dec 2006
While still in her 20s Patricia Perrie was diagnosed with both Rheumatoid and Osteo Arthritis. At age 32 she was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Doctors told her that this, coupled with the arthritis, meant she would be in a wheelchair within ten years.
Then a Melbourne-based naturopath, thirteen years ago Patricia bought her seven acre property in Riddells Creek, a central Victorian country town nestling near Gisborne in the foothills of the Macedon Ranges 70 kilometres from Melbourne.
At first she commuted daily to the city for work, “I realised that every time I got in the car to head home to the country, I felt happy as I have always disliked city traffic, petrol fumes, pollution and suburbia.” It occurred to her that she could be happy on a permanent basis if she moved her work place to her country property. She now operates a successful country practice from home, offering an extensive range of naturopathic and herbal treatments that include Naturopathy, Homeopathy, Iridology, Biomesotherapy, Bowen therapy.
With the help of herbs and other alternative treatments along with lifestyle changes and country living Patricia has managed to play competitive sport (Badminton) for twenty seven years and only gave up horse riding after thirty years “when the horse grew too old and I got too busy.” Her other hobbies are oil painting and woodwork. Many of her paintings have sold at exhibitions and she has made all the furniture in her house.
A touch of Asia in the garden also helps. Three years ago, Patricia and husband Chris decided to create an Asian theme garden on their land. Their motivation was twofold.
“The grassy area around the house always looked a mess. We could never grow a nice lawn because we live in a country area with lots of weeds and other matter that blow about from neighbouring paddocks,” says Patricia, adding that their two giant Alaskan Malamute dogs, Snow Wolf and Shimmer, constantly digging holes in the lawn, didn’t help either. Their decision to design an Asian style garden out of this former lawn area was inspired by their trips over the last few years to Bali and Thailand.
Patricia had established a small nursery on her property and over a three year period had cultivated several varieties of hardy plants for the garden. “I would buy one plant and turn it into thirty more.” She explains that she deliberately exposed the young plants to the elements to learn which ones would survive.
“You can’t be too precious about plants out here. We have severe frost, severe heat and severe winds. So my plants had to go through a period of adjusting to climate, wind and frost. I didn’t reproduce those that didn’t make it.”
They began the actual work on their new garden during Easter 2005. “The whole garden was established in just three months, using the plants I had propagated to adult size.”
The result is a spectacular Asian ‘touch of the tropics’, waterlilies floating upon a small lagoon, waterfalls, pond, a 50 metre running creek bed lined with local pebbles from nearby Gisborne, a water fountain, Balinese stone statues and temples. The main attraction is the thatched roof hut “we call our Bali hut”. This is an outdoor gazebo which sits over the running creek and is used as part of Patricia’s practice ‘for outdoor massage’. When not in use for clients Patricia and Chris often eat in their Bali hut. ‘We have our meals there with family and friends and we all feel like we’re on a holiday.’
They have also built an undercover outdoor heated spa bath which serves a dual purpose “for private social functions and for hydrotherapy treatment for clients”. Patricia uses this as both a spa and a massage area, inviting masseurs to set up their work area near the spa. “It is so nice for the person who is working out there as they too can enjoy the sounds of the trickling water and the garden views. You don’t have to create the atmosphere, it is there. Now we feel we’re on a holiday every day, by just stepping out in to our own garden.”
It is little wonder that Patricia has attracted clients from far and wide. “I have clients who fly in from interstate. Others will drive four hours for treatments.” According to Patricia some of her regulars come from as far a field as Adelaide, Toowoomba and Deniliquin. This is also testimony to the wide range of alternative therapies she offers. She makes the point that she wouldn’t use on her clients anything that she hasn’t used on herself and found helpful. More than a dozen Certificates and Diplomas line her office wall, “and I have a display folder of others. I’ve run out of wall space to hang them,” she says with a laugh. Every year she adds another Certificate to her growing list of qualifications.
Patricia also works with animals, using homeopathic and herbs. “I have helped cats, dogs, horses and livestock such as sheep, goats and cows.” She once had the opportunity to work with an expensive show horse which had suffered a broken neck bone. “The owner believes I was instrumental in the horse’s recovery.”
Cows graze in her fields and provide organic beef, “only for home use.” She uses her herbal remedies for any illnesses or wounds the cattle suffer.
An orchard of fruit trees supplies the family with a variety of apples, apricots, pears, plums, and to her surprise, oranges and lemons. “Citrus trees are supposed to be impossible to grow in this area. So we must have the magical spot.”
Patricia grows all seasonal vegetables from which she makes her own tomato, herb and garlic pasta sauces, tomato relish and fruit chutney, as well as fruit spreads and dessert sauces. “And I make many varieties of soups as I would never buy or eat canned soups.” Her homemade favourites are minestrone soup and what she calls her potassium soup, which is a combination of vegetables rich in potassium such as celery, potatoes and tomatoes. “This gives both nourishment and energy.”
It is now twenty five years on and with no wheelchair in sight she is living proof that “keeping fit and living as natural as possible” is the key to better health.

Why put up with pain
Fairfax News Article 2.8.04.
Patricia Perrie, who practices at her home office 1550 Riddell-Sunbury Rd Riddells Creek has been offering better choices for Pain Management, now for over one year with great success. This revolutionary treatment is called Biomesotherapy, she helps many people who suffer from
Arthritis, Chronic - Ongoing Pain, Soft tissue - Muscular Injuries.
Trish said, “I always use myself to trial new products and treatments to add my own testimonial to the creditability before offering them to my clients.” Using this method Trish is been very successful in helping many people with their injuries or pain problems. “I have found Biomesotherapy to be the icing on the cake” Trish explains, “this additional treatment along with other well known physical therapies namely Bowen Therapy, Massage and Chiropractic all supplement each other.” Trish also takes optimal health care one step further with the use of herb/homeopathic medicine, dietary suggestions and lifestyle changes. “This will give most people the pain relief others take for granted.” said Trish.
Biomesotherapy, is a new therapy in Australia consisting of the use of homoeopathic products in the mouth and the stimulation of specific points in the body with a saline solution injection. Most of these injections are given under the skin in specific zones. Although this treatment has been used in Europe for several decades it is interesting to note the German Olympic 2000 team used this treatment while in the Sydney games.
“Nobody likes needles myself included” said Trish. “I have been terrorized by them all my life, due to big bad needles I had as a child.” “But I did grow up to realise the necessity of them in certain situations,” said Trish.
Most people who are apprehensive about injections are surprised at how easy and quickly this treatment is given with the inject-ease devise. In fact, these injections can not be compared with the ‘usual’ injections given in conventional medicine. The diabetic insulin needles used are so fine they are more like acupuncture needles. Injections are given just under the skin while over specific muscle points. Some of these points called trigger points (USA) or acupuncture points (Chinese Ancient Medicine).
Injections in and around the joints are also common. Any thing up to six injections may be given at different points and zones during each session. For example pain in the Knees the treatment injections will be given to several painful spots in the knee region as well as in the muscle above and below the knees.
Biomesotherapy, can not heal all medical problems and is not a miracle therapy. The majority of the clients who choose to be treated with Biomesotherapy are in pain and do not support the use of chemical drugs for inflammation or pain. Trish said, “it is important to realize that Biomesotherapy does not ‘take away’ the pain as with the traditional medicine, it will assist the body to feel much less discomfort while attending to the repair of damaged tissue.” Naturopath’s regard pain as an important ‘signal’ that something is going wrong. “We do not just want to just take the pain away, we need to look for the deeper cause of pain and work with what is causing the pain in the first place by using other forms of treatments,” said Trish. This means that they can alleviate the pain without prescribing painkillers.
This therapy is used for Arthritis, back or neck pain, but can also treat ankle sprain, sciatica, frozen shoulder and Achilles tendinitis, and is used successfully for sport injuries and repetitive strain. In addition the use of this therapy as an alternative for those clients who have tried chemical medicine but have had no success, or for those who have had to stop the chemical medicines because of side effects. For some clients it may be an advantage to combine both chemical medicines together with Biomesotherapy.
Aesthetic Medicine
Why Use Botox when there is a Natural alternative.
Editorial: Midland Express Newspaper. 26th April 2007
Patricia Perrie of the Natural Choices Clinic in Riddells Creek has just completed further studies again this time on the Gold Coast with the Australian Association of Homotoxicology, the International Biomesotherapy workshop on Aesthetic Medicine was organized by Brauer Professional and the presenter was Dr Klause Kuestermann from Germany, who instructed in the use of Heel products.
Aesthetic Medicine.
The Greek word “aisthesis” was once used to describe the theory of sensory perception. The concept has undergone a number of changes over the centuries.
Esthetic medicine works outwards from within from the periphery into the deeper layers –via the network of the ground substance.
The Homotoxicological approach to Esthetic Medicine which has been used in Europe successfully for the last 30 years and offers a wonderful concept in this field of looking good by using natural remedies into the matrix which give a long lasting effect with out any of the danger or side affects as is with Botox injections.
Trish first uses Iridology to look into the client’s whole body system to make sure the bowels and digestive system are working to the best of their ability; she may have to offer medication if they are not. ‘ If they do not function properly they can have a detrimental effect on the skin’. Said Trish.
Then the first stage of the Esthetic treatment is metabolic cleansing of the body by using a Homotoxicology Detox kit provided by the clinic. ‘Everybody gets this’ she said. Why does you body need detoxification? Toxins are a part of everyday life. A toxin is a term for any type of build up waste. These toxins have and irritating and harmful effect on the body. External toxins are substances that we eat, drink, breath in and have skin contact with. ‘We need to take these steps to help in the recovery of the skin’ Trish said.
Then one week later you are ready to start the four to six week program of very small injections into the wrinkles with a homoeopathic medicine. This treatment then fills up the wrinkle and works from within the matrix thus healing and repairing the damage tissue. ‘The effects are remarkable and last for anything up to 2 years.’ Said Trish.
Trish said the Australian climate is very harsh on the skin that coupled with the bad habit of not drinking much water, smoking, Alcohol and unhealthy diet has a devastating effect on your skin. Most people do not realize the damage they are doing to the skin when they are young, although most are much more responsible adults but unfortunately the damage was already done.
“Esthetics and attractiveness play a large role in society today. It is quite clear that looking good is an additional factor in success” said Trish. Looking good not only makes you feel good on the out side but also on the inside. Physiological effects of feeling good helps you maintain a healthy physical body.
Trish has been helping people with scars on there skin from accidents or operations for 2 years now with very good results. She would now like to help people turn back the clock and repair the damage skin by attending to the Wrinkles, Smiling lines, Frowns and Spider veins. She also works with Stretch marks and Cellulite on the body with the same style of treatment but with different Homoeopathic medicine.
A TOUCH OF ASIA IN THE GARDEN

“Many thanks, my little boy Steven is now free of Eczema no more glad wrap for him. If only the specialists had have told me years ago to take him off Dairy he would not have had 4 years of pain and suffering”. Yours truly Pat 19.4.99
Trish how can I thank you enough for all your help with Angela while she was in hospital these last 6 months the Dr’s had given up on her after she came out of the coma which lasted a month, on waking their assessment of her was a vegetative state for the rest of her life, they said. Well didn’t she prove them wrong with your help, it was amazing her recovery while under your care even the Dr’s hang around asking what you were giving her and why. I remember you laughing when they asked you to give them some literature on Silica they were so impressed it had removed the additional bony structure (calcification) which had settled in her leg making it impossible for her to walk again. (their options were to amputate) thank god we did not listen. The paralysis she suffered down the right side of her body is now barely evident thanks to your quick thinking of teaching all family members to massage her 2 times a day in shifts. Her speech is wonderful unless she gets excited then her head rattles causing her to slur a little. It gets worse when she drinks, we tell her not to but after all she is an 24 year old and she knows better. I will keep you up to date on her progress. Now that she is moving to Queensland with her boy friend. By for now take care from Margie. 14th November 1998
