HERBAL MEDICINE

Herbal medicine is a system of medicine which exclusively uses plants. It is the oldest form of medicine on the planet, and is still used as the primary form of medicine by over 75% of the world’s population. With the enormous amount of scientific information and research in the field of herbal medicine, this information assists herbalists in applying their traditional remedies with even greater safety and efficacy.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM HERBAL MEDICINE AS A FORM OF TREATMENT

After a lengthy consultation which covers family history, diet assessment, lifestyle, emotional factors, and an more in-depth examination via iridology, the practitioner can gain a much bigger insight into the underlying causes that occur with the symptoms the patient is experiencing. Once the underlying causes are found, the patient can expect dramatic changes in their general wellbeing, along with increased energy and motivation and look forward to a healthier, happier way of being.

WHAT CAN HERBAL MEDICINE TREAT

Chronic (ie long term) health problems can take time to change, however the permanent change and relative freedom from side effects is more than adequate compensation.

For more acute (ie immediate) conditions such as colds and flu, hayfever, menstrual problems and much more, the response to herbal treatment can be very quick and effective.

WHAT IS IRIDOLOGY

Iridology is the science and practice of studying the iris (the coloured part of the eye surrounding the pupil), to assist the practitioner either by detecting possible future illness or by assisting with an existing health condition. The iris gives the practitioner an in-depth look into the whole body system, enabling the practitioner to get a much wider view of what might be the underlying cause of an existing illness. To fully explain iridology one would need to write pages, suffice to say it is a very accurate tool for assisting the practitioner in health assessment and resolution.

HOMOEOPATHY

The principle of homoeopathic medicine is simply that “like cures like”, ie through a series of questions asked by the therapist to the client a homoeopathic medicine can be prescribed whose actions match the symptoms being described, thus resolving those symptoms. Homoeopathic medicine works not only on the physical level but also on the spiritual/emotional level. It is safe to use on newborns through to the elderly.

BOWEN THERAPY

The Bowen Technique is unique in the field of bodywork. Its relatively few, gentle “moves” over muscle and other soft tissue address the whole body, stimulating it to reset and heal itself. The healing may occur at all levels as needed: physical, chemical emotional, mental, energetic, etc. There are frequent important pauses between sets of moves, which give the body time to benefit from each set. By selecting appropriate combinations and sequences of moves, the practitioner is able to address the body as a whole, and/or to target one or more specific problems. The practitioner discerns stress build-up in muscle groups and utilises Bowen moves to release that stress.

Bowen addresses the body as a whole unit rather than just the presenting symptoms. The physical, chemical, emotional and mental aspects of each person receiving Bowen can all respond as needed.

A Bowen session consists of a series of several gentle moves through light-weight clothing (or on the skin). The client usually lies on a bed or bodywork table or, if necessary, seated in a chair. However, Bowen can be done anywhere – on the sports field, in a hospital room, or at the site of an accident.

A session may last from twenty minutes to an hour. Most often, surprisingly few sessions are needed to alleviate complaints, whether structural or functional, even if long-standing. The results hold for a long time, generally until or unless there is a re-injury.

Bowen is completely safe and appropriate for everyone from newborns to the very elderly and frail.

Bowen is a ‘complementary’ modality in the sense that it enhances and complements, but does not interfere with, traditional medical attention. Bowen’s input to the nervous system is very subtle, and the body responds over time. For that reason, it is best to avoid other manipulative therapies for several days before and after a Bowen session lest they interfere with the body’s response to the Bowen session.

How It Works

Bowen is neither derived from nor similar to any other hands-on modality. The mechanisms of action are not completely understood, but it is generally agreed that it works primarily through the nervous system on both structural and energetic levels. Healing most likely occurs through the response of the body’s autonomic nervous system to the Bowen moves.

Simply stated, Bowen allows the body to reset and heal itself.

MASSAGE (SWEDISH THERAPEUTIC)

This particular style of massage improves blood and lymphatic flow, assisting the body to remove toxins and release stress and tension from the muscles. It is both beneficial, relaxing and enjoyable. The highest quality essential oils are used in these sessions.

REMEDIAL MASSAGE

Remedial massage similarly focuses on improved blood and lymphatic flow, also assisting with the removal of toxins however, it is more concentrated on trouble areas either from overuse injury or sports injury, using various techniques to break up trigger points, correct sciatic problems, back and shoulder problems, and a myriad of other injuries. Along with remedial massage, specific stretching and strengthening exercises can be used to assist the particular injury. The highest quality essential oils are used in these sessions.

LYMPHATIC MASSAGE/DRAINAGE

This form of massage is particularly beneficial to people who have an overloaded lymphatic system, or the glands which are part of that system. Common sites being the throat, under the arms, the breasts and tops of the legs in the groin area. Coupled with lymphatic drainage massage a cleansing diet is highly recommended.

NATURAL FERTILITY MANAGEMENT

This can be achieved by using a range of specific herbal medicines along with flower essences to rebalance the body and allow natural fertility to occur. This also involves a full consultation, health history, family history and iridology to meet the needs of the individual, along with follow up consultations and support throughout the pregnancy.

FLOWER ESSENCES

These wonderful gifts from nature help to heal and enhance our conscious growth. I very often prescribe flower essences alongside herbal medicine as they have the ability to change a negative perception of feeling about oneself and their environment to a positive feeling about oneself and their environment. As the philosophy of naturopathic treatment is “wholistic”one cannot merely treat the physical causes of illness, but must also address the emotional and spiritual aspects in order to facilitate complete healing. Flower essences are completely safe for infants through to the elderly.
