Return to Wellness - Practical and professional assistance with helping you cope with relationship difficulties, change, illness, loss and conflict.
SERVICES Need help through a difficult time?
You have within you a personal 'set point of equilibrium', which ensures you stay emotionally healthy through the general push-pull of living. Disharmony occurs when that equilibrium is tipped off balance, through experiences of loss: - relationship, health, job, identity, through the death of a loved one, or in some way 'death' of oneself in the natural struggle to live authentically and fully.
Do you feel confused or stuck about a current concern, or feel the support of a counsellor may help you deal with a current difficult life experience?
Counselling can help you gain insight into a current concern and explore options and choices. In my many years of experience, I have learnt that if a person is given a safe, non-judgemental place to talk about their experience, the body system can feel relieved of internal pressure to 'keep it all together'. Counselling can offer you new and different strategies to manage the demands of your work, family and relationships.
Psychotherapy is often discussed in terms of depth and development of the personality and seeks to address how problems arise. Within you, you have the blueprint of your true nature and psychotherapy is a shared exploration into the meaning and understanding of your experience of problems and conflicts. Psychotherapy enables the unconscious and sub-text of your life to come into view. This work together is often longer term. The resolution of long standing difficulties and symptoms and the security of the therapist-client relationship cultivates emotional maturation and your personal authority. Psychotherapy can hold a light to what is often unseen.
Family Therapy
When you or another family member experiences change, illness, separation or death, every family member's role and emotional behaviour is affected as part of this larger interconnected system we call 'family' .The 'family system' can often reorganise itself in a resilient response to change, although some crises create a destabilising fracture that can seem difficult to heal.
Your family deserves every support to keep connected or find new ways of communicating in difficult times and I can help you to work and talk together to find the solutions that best serves your family right now.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN A COUNSELLING SESSION
We will spend time talking so I can understand what has brought you to counselling, why this point in time and what you want to achieve from seeing me. We will spend time clarifying the concern. Sometimes by talking about your experience, relief and clarity can appear quite naturally. Depending on your concern and your goals, we may only spend a few sessions problem solving or work more longer term seeking deeper insight into difficulties that may have been problematic over time. The experience is respectful and collaborative and the natural anxiety felt by going into counselling can ease within this supportive therapist-client relationship.
