What Is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy was developed in the 1950’s by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia. The Bowen Technique is a gentle but very dynamic therapy. It empowers the body’s own healing resources, achieving balance and harmony, frequently resulting in fast and lasting relief from pain and discomfort. The technique is considered safe to use on anyone from newborns to the elderly, with any condition from sports injuries to chronic or organic complaints.
The treatment comprises sequences of small gentle moves, each at specific sites on the body. There is no forceful manipulation, just a light cross-fibre manoeuvring of a muscle, tendon or ligament, therefore pleasant to the recipient. The Bowen Technique taps into the body’s natural feedback system that monitors the state of each muscle.
As well as releasing any tension within the muscles, the moves also work on energy blocks (accumulated by injury, tension or disease), allowing increased energy flow and hence healing ability. Treatments can be performed through light clothing, and substantial relief is frequently experienced after the first 1 or 2 sessions.
What Is Remedial Therapy?
Remedial Therapy works deep in the muscle tissue to stretch and loosen tight or knotted fibres. It essential purpose is to increase the blood flow through affected areas to allow the innate healing process of the body to take place.
Remedial Therapy involves the application of a range of physical skills to assist in bodily aches, pains and discomfort and limitations. These are:
Longitudinal strokes: implies in the same direction of the muscle fibres to help flush the toxins into the lymphatic system.
Cross fibring: breaks up muscle and connective tissue that has become stuck together and helps release muscle contractions or spasms.
Trigger Points: are hypersensitive muscle locations that cause pain in response to undue stress. They maybe caused by occupational or other injuries as well as by disease, physical stress and emotional stress. Trigger points rarely occur in the same location where the pain is felt.
Myofascial Release: focuses on the fascial system. Each muscle has a wrapping around it called a fascia. When worked on, it releases the fascia tissue that has been tightened over time, pulling the body out of alignment causing trauma, pain and limitations of movement.
PNF-Stretching: is a whole relaxed stretch and is done by using an assistance. The therapist would take the muscle into a active (isometric) stretch, preparing the muscle to relax for deep tissue massage. It also helps the muscle come back to normal length after being contracted (shortened) from an injury or has been strained.

What Is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy derives from ancient practices that involves the use of pure essential oils to heal the body, mind and spirit. Aromatherapy is an alternative medicine, a natural drug free treatment that has found to be significantly effective in relieving stress, working on emotional balance and improving individuals health and appearance.
Pure essential oils are extracted from varieties of plants and trees. They carry a tremendous amount of plant energy, made up by 200-3 00 natural chemicals, in which makes the essential oils too strong to be applied onto the skin on their own.
In aromatherapy massage, essential oils are blended in with a fatty base carrier oil. Fatty oils provides a safe and ideal base for the application of essential oils to the skin. This is because fatty oils can penetrate and absorb through the skin quite easily, much more better than water.
The skin has phospholipids bilayers that is attracted to fatty substances and repels against water substances.
Essential oils are composed of tiny molecules.
Therefore this allows them to absorb through the skins structure and work into the body by:

Eliminating waste toxins
Regulating the sebum production
Reducing inflammation
Improve muscle tone and blood circulation
From here, the essential oils pass into the 2 transport systems, the circulatory and the lymphatic. This allows them to be carried around within the cells to all parts of the body, and releasing their properties within the major organs, in order to aide with their functional needs.
The effects maybe stimulating, calming, healing, energizing or relaxing. It all depends upon what type of oils are being used and on the individual who is being massaged.
Aromatherapy combines the nurturing and relaxing powers of touch with the powerful sense of smell. The sense of smell is a chemical response we receive from our environment. It influences our mood, behaviour and emotions, that is closely interconnected with all the parts of the limbic system.
During the massage, the aromas are perceived by the nerve endings in the nose and signals are passed into the limbic system, via the olfactory tract to the brain. The brain monitors are triggered when the sense of smell is received, and therefore begins to interpret them. The brain sends feedback to the bodily systems, informing our emotions and nervous tensions to calm down or to uplift. Depending on what aliment the essential oils have been used for, the properties will start to respond and work on the nervous system, emotions and the mind.

Why Massage?
A muscle may become tight and tense through excessive or repeated use, through stress or after injury.
If a muscle is asked to perform repeatedly any activity to which it is unaccustomed, such as hill walking, painting a ceiling or digging the garden it may respond by tightening.
Mental and emotional stress can have the same effect, usually to the shoulders or buttocks.
Muscles are also very frequently damaged by a sudden unexpected movement - bending down, slipping or overstretching. This is particularly likely to happen if the muscles are already tight, and even a slight muscle tear can cause the muscle fibres around to tighten to protect the injury, leading to further discomfort and restriction of movement.
Around the sight of the injury, the healing muscle fibres bind together to form “scar tissue”, which feels like a knot of muscles which prevents individual fibres moving freely. When a movement is made the knotted fibres pull on the bone and joint and may make movement painful.
Frequently tightness in a muscle will not produce pain at the site of the problem, but on a joint or muscle which is pulled by the action, or where the tight tendon rubs across a boney prominence. This is frequently the cause of knee or ankle pain.
