David Pinniger
As principal, David started McIvor Therapies in November 2000 to cater for the ever increasing demand for services offering an alternative to the more traditional physician > physiotherapy approach.
Having been a senior lecturer in physical education at LaTrobe University for 20 years David has a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology with his main teaching areas being Anatomy, Sports Medicine and Sports Coaching as well as Curriculum Development and Teaching.
Throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s David studied and practised soft tissue therapy at formal courses and endless workshops conducted by leading Australian and International practitioners including Rich Phaigh, Paul Conneely, Lester Cox and Rob Granter. He currently holds a 2 year full-time Diploma in Remedial Therapies and a Diploma in Advanced Sports Therapy to supplement his university qualifications and experience.
Furthermore he has conducted many workshops of his own on Sports Massage and Structural Alignment and worked at the Australian Institute of Sport (Department of Physiotherapy and Massage) and with the West Indian Test Cricketers and the Australian and Indian Under 19 cricket teams.
As a consultant massage educator he has written and taught the Certificate & Diploma of Remedial Massage Courses for the Central School of Tactile Therapies and written Remedial and Sports Massage courses for several Victorian Tertiary Institutions. In his educator role David still conducts post- graduate workshops for massage therapists, remedial massage therapists and allied health professionals.
David specializes in postural analysis and structural alignment using Onsen Muscle Energy Technique combined with a combination of strengthening and stretching exercises. Along with Bowen Therapy David emphasizes soft tissue work in the form of remedial and sports massage. This encompasses using a variety of techniques including corrective manipulation of muscles, tendons and ligaments, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and relaxation massage.
