The purpose behind smoking is very positive…it’s a good thing?
The purpose is good, the outcome is bad…actually the outcome is fatal.

One of the biggest misconceptions about smoking is that it is all bad. When I ask clients who want to quit smoking “What’s good about smoking?” They often reply by saying ‘nothing’. Which is not only incorrect it is a belief that can make quitting smoking harder than it needs to be.

The majority of people I help to quit smoking, smoke cigarettes so that they can have some time out, a few moments to ponder life and just relax. This is a good thing to do.

It’s very healthy for stress levels and state of mind, therefore emotion.

Just Quitting cold turkey is the worst thing you could do…

Not only is quitting cold turkey without any assistance the hardest way to quit smoking it also fails to recognise the benefits that smoking used to provide.

When you quit without giving your mind and body a way to have the old benefits, then it rebels. It rebels with cravings, mood swings, frustration. And so it should.

If you smoke to manage your daily stress and you don’t have a new way to manage your stress the only outcome is a build up of stress, more tension and pain. The cravings are not for cigarettes, they are for the positive feelings that cigarettes used to give you.

As humans one pattern of behaviour that we repeat is that we will always resort to behaviours that are familiar, unless you have new and better ways of accessing the feelings you want, need and deserve.

The other reason is that you have not recoded the old triggers that used to cause you to smoke.

Think of a trigger as a cue for your mind to smoke a cigarette. For some people drinking a glass of wine or beer is a trigger to smoke a cigarette, for others it might be if they feel a bit anxious then their mind has linked up that with the idea that its time to smoke a cigarette.

If you don’t reprogram the old triggers that used to cause you to smoke then you will always have to use willpower and monitor your thoughts.

What is NLP and Hypnosis?
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It is the science of how we communicate with ourselves, to ourselves.

As most habitual behaviours are below the level of our conscious awareness (sub conscious) NLP allows us to discover our unconscious processes and change them easily and quickly. It is especially effective in changing habits such as smoking.

Hypnosis in its root meaning, means sleep, but this is a very misleading way of thinking about hypnosis. Hypnosis is a different state of awareness to the normal waking state. A lot of people describe the feeling as being similar to daydreaming.

1. You must interrupt the old habitual behavioural patterns at a neurological level.
