5 Healthiest Summer Fruits

Health Tips
Last Updated Aug 18, 2020

Summer is here! Which means one thing – juicy fruits! But some fruits are said to be "healthier" than others.

Why boost your fruit intake in summer? Well, we should really be eating fruits year-round as a part of a healthy balanced diet. Just be careful not to overeat, as fruit is high in fructose. As they say, everything in moderation. A dietitian or nutritionist can help you devise a healthy eating plan incorporating the right amount and types of fruit.

Watermelon

When the heat has you beat, watermelon can be oh so refreshing. And because it's practically all water (around 90%), it can help you cool down and feel rehydrated. Melon also guards your skin against sun damage, and is packed with vitamins like A and C. Just be sure to also drink plenty of water in the heat… watermelon can only do so much!

Berries

Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries… take your pick. Berries are bery beautiful, because they're packed with antioxidants. The flavonoids help keep your skin healthy and radiant… and may even be anti-ageing. Plus, in summer, they're perfect blitzed into a cool smoothie or eaten fresh. Summer just got a whole lot sweeter!

Rockmelon

Called "cantaloupe" in some countries, rockmelon is high in water just like watermelon. Its sweet juices give you a pick-up if you've been a little parched in the sun, and can help replenish your hydration. They're also full of vitamin A and C, which help regenerate skin cells. So not only will you feel good, you'll look good too! Side joke – why was the melon sad? Because it cantaloupe. Ha.

Nectarines

Ah, is there any smell sweeter than the whiff of stone fruits on a warm summer's day? Sweet and succulent, nectarines and peaches are the ideal summer snack. They're also high in essential vitamins and minerals.

Pineapple

Slightly sour compared to other summer fruits, pineapple is our pick for great all-rounder on a hot day. Why? Because it's full of vitamins, enzymes, and antioxidants. Like bromelain, which guards the body against inflammation.
