Endeavour College of Natural Health recently opened a new Sydney campus, and celebrated with a series of pop-up gardens across the Sydney CBD. It also gifted thousands of certified organic herb starter packs to commuters - all with the aim of encouraging healthy living and promoting the therapeutic properties of herbs in a fun and tangible way. ntpages took the opportunity to find out about the study options at the college for those looking to extend their interest in healthy living and nutrition.

What is your objective with the pop up gardens that have been spotted around Sydney?

"We designed the Endeavour pop-up gardens to plant a seed in people's minds about healthy living and promote the therapeutic properties of herbs in a fun and tangible way. We wanted to help Sydneysiders enjoy all the benefits that come with growing your own produce and to learn more about the herbs used and prescribed by our natural health students and graduates."

What have you been giving away?

"We have gifted thousands of certified organic herb starter packs of mint, thyme, rosemary, chamomile and oregano over five days to curious commuters across the Sydney CBD. Each Endeavour-branded herb starter pack contains a packet of 100% certified organic herb seeds and soil along with a recipe and booklet detailing the herb's properties and the various Endeavour degrees which incorporate the herb into its teachings."

What options do you have in terms of a qualification in the field of nutrition?

"Nutritional medicine is the obvious field for you. This naturopathic modality considers food and nutrients in relation to health and disease. It looks at the quality of food that is harvested, as well as its preparation and the balance of macro and micronutrients needed by an individual at various stages of life.

The Bachelor of Health Science (Nutritional Medicine) is a three-year qualification that enables the practitioner to gain membership to professional bodies, obtain insurance and receive reimbursement from selected health funds.

This training provides a solid foundation in biomedical and clinical sciences, as is standard in most health science degrees. A nutritional consultant is also trained in communication and management skills including an appreciation of legal and ethical issues that may arise in a clinical setting."

How can nutritional medicine help?

"Nutritional medicine may be corrective or palliative. It is used in chronic conditions to rebalance organ function, treat disease and restore mental and emotional balance as well as for weight gain or loss."

Tell us a little about your new Sydney campus…

"We are the largest provider of Higher Education degrees and VET courses in natural health and fitness in the Southern Hemisphere with campuses in Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.  Our new Sydney campus allows us to offer a wide variety of degree programs specialising in complementary medicine and wellbeing.  It also furthers the College's commitment to sustainability, with the facility designed using sensor lighting and recycled building materials."
