About your therapist

My name is Paula Langford and I was born and raised in Broken Hill, NSW, I left my hometown at 18 years of age to commence travelling around Australia.

After arriving in Cairns in December 1984, I decided to make this area my home base and began studying at the Cairns College of Natural Therapies.

My initial interest in Natural Remedies extended into many areas including different forms of medicines, massage and ideologies.

Once I had completed my courses, I launched “out on my own” and initiated the first Mobile Massage service in the Cairns district in 1988.

I do not provide a mobile business. All treatments are in Cairns City. Days of operation are Thursday, Friday and Saturday only. I can often be booked out a week in advance in prime time slots, so pre-bookings are strongly advised.

I suggest that you make your bookings in advance as some treatments require prior preparation.

I use a variety of massage techniques:

  • Bowen Technique / Therapy

  • Pregnancy Massage with a Pregnancy Massage Table

  • Traditional Chinese 'Cupping'

  • Swedish Massage

  • Deep Tissue Massage

Pregnancy Massage

Paula has a Pregnancy Table that she uses when massaging women in their later stages of pregnancy.
This increases the comfort for the woman and is a more relaxing position than laying on your side. Paula has one of the very few pregnancy tables in Cairns.

The Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique is a cross fibre muscle release technique that balances and stimulates energy flows, resulting in a deep sense of overall relaxation. There are regular pauses between the series of gentle moves to give the body the required time to allow the body to reset and heal itself.

There are various schools of protocols originating from the teachings of Mr Tom Bowen, the founder of the Bowen Technique. The healing is not considered massage but rather a non invasive muscle release technique consisting of a series of gentle cross fibre moves that have long term benefits as long as the injury or pain is not re-aggravated.

Bowen Technique strives to find the origin of a problem and is therefore very effective for muscular-skeletal problems, including ankle, knee, lower back and neck pain.

Other problems addressed by the Bowen Technique include:

  • Sciatic pain

  • Asthma

  • Dizziness

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Migraines

  • Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) Whiplash

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Many muscle or joint pains of unknown origin.

A treatment usually requires the client to lie on a bed or treatment couch and can be performed through light clothing. Sessions can last from 30 minutes to an hour. It is usually recommended to have two to three sessions of the Bowen Technique with a break of 7 to 28 days between each session.

Paula's regular clients have enjoyed benefits from 2- 14 years before the old injury re-surfaced, usually due to their busy lifestyles and having to work in their chosen fields.

Traditional Chinese 'Cupping'

This technique reaches down to the deep layers under the skin, up to 3 inches !
Cupping also uses heat to suck out toxins and accumulated stress and tensions.
The suction created through cupping method will loosen impacted nerve endings thus restoring them to their original state.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue.

It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.

Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

Swedish Massage

Relaxation at it's most sublime.

Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best-known type of massage. If it's you're first time Swedish massage is the perfect place to start.

Paula uses massage oils to facilitate smooth, gliding strokes along with kneading, friction and stretching
Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create other health benefits.

Please note that any of the above therapies can be combined in the one session for the same price...starting from $80.
