What Is Acupuncture & Why Should You Try Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a Traditional form of medicine that involves the use of ultra fine, sterilised acupuncture needles to treat both acute and chronic health issues. Your initial consultation will consist of completing a detailed questionaire regarding your presenting health complaint and once complete I will design an acupuncture treatment plan spicifically to your condition. Acupuncture treatment can then begin with a gentle and painless techniqe using the most effective points to improve your health.
Acupuncture is a time honoured system of medicine dating back over 2000 years, it is a holistic and drug free approach to health. The effectiveness of acupuncture treatment for today's chronic health problems means that acupuncture is now practiced around the world and has become even more popular as a complement to standard medical treatment and in many cases as a genuine alternative.

Once your initial consultation form is complete, 'which generally takes 5-10 minutes', I will ask you a few additional questions regarding your presenting health complaint and then treatment will begin. As previously mentioned I will start acupuncture treatment based on the personalised acupuncture points selected via your description of your health issue. During treatment the acupuncture needles are generally left in place for around 30 minutes. In addition to acupuncture your treatment may also involve (if required) T.E.N.S, far infrared, cupping, remedial therapy techniques, Bowen therapy, electro acupuncture or musculoskeletal therapy, please note there is no extra charge for these therapies as they are used to compliment your acupuncture treatment for improved results.
Sometimes you will greatly benefit from certain herbal or supplemental natural medicines which I will discuss with you and should you decide to try them I can inform you of the best and most cost effective places to source them, alternatively I can supply a practitioner only product for you. Your initial consultation and treatment will take upto one and a half hours and follow up appointments are generally from 45 minutes to one hour.
I Am Keen To Try Acupuncture But Is It Painful.
Acupuncture needles are superfine which means they are virtually painless and to the astonishment of those who chose acupuncture, they find it relaxing and not painful at all, consequently no pain does not mean no sensation, the most common sensations are:
1) A slight dull ache around the points being treated, which is described as very mild and not painful and lasts only a minute or so.
2) A tingling sensation around the area being treated which is described as being pleasant.
3) An electrical type of sensation that runs up or down the body part being treated and lasts only a few seconds and often described as a light gentle jolt.
4) A warm sensation that surrounds the area being treated and is described as a warm relaxing sensation.
All of the sensations listed are mild and very transient and don't cause pain and when you experience any of these sensations you're literally feeling acupuncture working.
How Many Treatments Will I Need.
Successful treatment will depend on a few facts: whether your condition is acute or chronic, Acute conditions are conditions that you have had for a few days upto a max of 3 months. Chronic conditions are 3 months plus. An acute condition may be fixed in as little as 1 or 2 appointments.
Chronic conditions require a longer treatment plan, which can mean 2 to 3 treatments per week for upto 6 treatments in order to get the condition under conrol and then regular more consistant treatments to further improve the condition. I generally recommend either supplemental or herbal medicines in the treatment of chronic conditions and take home exercises to help reduce pain between appointments and increase your range of movement (ROM)
Regardless of your medically diagnosed condition acupuncture / natural medicine can make a huge difference to your health: to make an appointment or for further information
