The clinic has the resources to address all aspects of health using Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Dietary Therapy, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue and Sports Massage, Counseling and Psychotherapy.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is based on a history, philosophy and sociology very different from the West and over the last 3,000 years has developed a unique understanding of the workings of the body.
Acupuncture is a method of using fine disposable needles to stimulate invisible lines of energy running beneath the surface of the skin. This affects a change in the energy balance of the body and works to restore health.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion treats and prevents disease by applying heat to acupuncture points or certain locations of the body. The material used is “moxa wool” made from mugwort leaves (Artimesia vulgaris )
Moxa wool is either shaped into small cones, sticks that look like cigars or rolled into balls and placed onto the handle of the acupuncture needle.
Cupping
Cupping involves creating a vacuum in a suction cup over various parts of the body for therapeutic effects. The classical method of cupping was to briefly heating the air in an inverted cup, which then produces a vacuum when the air cools after the cup is quickly applied to the skin. The resultant low pressure under the cup causes a localized expansion of tissue, which produces a profound vasodilatation reaction.
Chinese Herbs
The origins of Chinese herbal medicine in China can be traced back at least five thousand years, making it one of the oldest and most long-standing health care systems in the world. In addition to providing effective treatment for a wide range of health disorders, Chinese herbal medicine may also be used to assist with general health maintenance and disease prevention.
Henry's Corrective Massage
With over 20yrs experience in Massage Therapy, I have discovered that stress, pain and dysfunction have both current and long-term causes. This creates an underlying pattern of pain and stress, compromising the body’s natural posture. If left unresolved, pain is more frequent, muscles get tighter, ones energy and activity lessens and a pain cycle ensures.
Swedish & Remedial Massage
Swedish Massage is now known as “Traditional Massage”. In the 1820’s a Swedish doctor, Dr. Per Henrik Ling, developed the first modern method of massage through his study of physiology, gymnastics and massage techniques from China , Egypt, Greece and Rome. Swedish Massage includes long gliding stokes (effleurage), kneading, friction, tapping, and shaking movements. Massaging the skin, the body’s largest organ, sets up a chain reaction that produces a positive effect on all the systems of the body. It affects the nerves, muscles, connective tissue, organs, glands, and the circulation. It is therefore beneficial for most ailments, promoting health and wellbeing.
Myofascial & Sports Massage
This is a technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument and muscles. It aims to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and bring proprioceptors into equilibrium. Restriction to fascia is caused by poor posture, injuries, overuse, stress, and trauma.
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) together with myofascial techniques lengthen tight/facilitated muscle , whilst fiber activation techniques (massage) tones weak/inhibited muscles.
Deep Tissue
D.T.M is designed to reach the deep portions of the musculature, specifically the individual muscle fibers. Using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle, its purpose is to unstick the fibers of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held patterns of tension .
Shiatsu
A Japanese form of physical therapy and therapeutic massage, based on traditional Chinese medicine. It combines massage, gentle physical manipulation, and pressure along channels or rivers of energy called meridians.
It is used to maintain good health, relieve pain, relax and de-stress, and for the treatment of a range of physical conditions.
