Irritable Bowel Syndrome IBS

IBS is said to be the most common condition seen by gastroenterologists.
Approximately 25% of people in the industrialized world suffer with IBS.

A Medical G.P. should always diagnose IBS since the symptoms of IBS can resemble those of other bowel diseases.

In a normal gut, the large intestine (also known as the colon) is a long muscular tube. The muscles in the walls alternately contract and relax (called peristalsis) propelling the contents of the bowel forward and when it is working normally, one is completely unaware of it. Water is absorbed from food waste by the bowel lining and then the contents firm up by the time it reaches the rectum.

IBS can affect the gut anywhere from the mouth to the anus, which can account for the diversity of symptoms seen in this condition. In IBS, the abnormalities in peristalsis i.e. the movement of the muscles in the colon are thought to be uncoordinated. Instead of contracting and relaxing in waves they contract irregularly and tend to spasm. Some people call it nervous colon and there is a hypnosis concept that says, Anything that stress will make worst, hypnosis will make better. The bowel is heavily supplied with nerve endings and there is another thought that IBS might be due to hypersensitivity in those nerve endings, which may set up a vicious cycle between the bowel and the brain resulting in bowel symptoms.

Although the cause of IBS is unknown but there also appears that there is a neurological component to IBS and the condition seems to be aggravated by stress or significant major life event.

The symptoms of IBS

  • Heartburn
  • Painful swallowing
  • Abdominal bloating and wind
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Headaches
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue and tiredness
  • Depression
  • Anxiety and stress related symptoms are common and may interact with the gut symptoms.

People living with IBS can experience a great deal of worry and anxiety about their condition. The problem is that worry and anxiety are part of a continuous cycle that repeats itself continually, feeling anxious so the problem gets worse, then the problems get worse because they feel more anxious and often depressed.

One of the leading researchers in last 20 years in the field of IBS is Peter Whorwell, Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology, School of Medicine, Manchester UK. He believes that hypnosis is the ideal treatment as there is no structural damage to the body. The sufferer can learn how to influence and gain control of their gut function and then it seems to be able to change the way the brain modulates their gut activity
And its in this area where hypnosis works well.

Among psychological treatments tested for IBS, hypnosis treatment has shown the highest success rate in replicated studies. The results have routinely produced positive results in an astounding 80% or more of the treated patients. The main theory behind the success of IBS is that the relaxation improves blood flow to the gut something that stress tends to inhibit. and so improves digestion and the movement of food through the bowel. This can also be achieved by hypnosis or having several treatments of Chi Nei Tsang (abdominal massage). As a Chi Nei Tsang Practitioner I can highly recommend it.

A NEW HOLISTIC APPROACH TO FERTILTY PROBLEMS AND ISSUES

Trying to have a baby? Are you experiencing problems conceiving? Or have you been diagnosed with unexplained infertility. Are you having IVF? Is it not working and causing emotional, financial and physical strain? Not great news to hear, quite often leaves any couple deeply concerned, disappointed and not prepared for the emotional impact that it can have, then left facing more emotional problems and the financial expense of a IVF program.

Unexplained infertility actually means that there is no physiological reason for a woman not to become pregnant. This could be reframed as, there is medical proof that there is no physical problem, you are not infertile and perhaps you just havent conceived yet. There could be a thought or an emotion that is preventing conception. The psychological issues as well as the physiological one need to be addressed when dealing with fertility.

Chi Nei Tsang - Abdominal Massage

Chi Nei Tsang (known as CNT) is a specialist massage technique for the abdomen and internal organs, which comes from the most ancient of Taoist traditions. The focus is on the abdomen but in practise it work on every part of the body including the clients mental, emotional and spiritual aspects.

Tension, stagnation, toxins and negativities always manifest themselves in the abdomen and can easily be identified as physical tension, spasm, bloating, feelings of knots and tangles in the nerves, blood vessels, or hardened lymph nodes, as well as accumulations of fatty tissue and cellulite around the waist, revealing an all too sedentary life style and lack of exercise, too rich a diet and lack of muscular tone. Soon or later, all the tensions, internal conflicts, and contradictions of a lifetime will surface and crystallize themselves in the abdomen more than anywhere else in the body. This area being intimate, often big, soft, and vulnerable is therefore well protected and usually deliberately hidden and ignored.

Chi Nei Tsang can dissolve blockages, untie knots and tangles and can release and eliminate areas of very old constrictions. The techniques can help the client to relax fully and allow vital energy to flow freely, revitalizing the abdomen and whole body.
The techniques of CNT can alleviate and dissolve negative emotions, anxiety, anguish and depression. There are physiological results like complete remission of chronic constipation and diarrhea, and irritable bowel syndrome. CNT has great results with many womens health issues. CNT can greatly reduce and even eliminate painful menstrual cramps, shrink fibroids, and relieve the pain and infertility associated with endometriosis.

CNT also works on the improving the cardio-vascular and pulmonary systems as well regularizing blood pressure and body weight, reducing joint pain, chronic fatigue, and persistent headaches, Chi Nei Tsang also has impressive results on all nerve pain including back pain, muscular and neuralgic pain of the extremities, sciatica and chronic stiffness of the back and neck.

Almost anyone can benefit from the relaxing and stress relieving qualities of Chi Nei Tsang. People needing support for their digestive, respiratory, cardio-vascular, lymphatic, nervous, endocrine, urinary, reproductive systems may find Chi Nei Tsang to be a gentle, life enhancing solution. Chi Nei Tsang is also helpful when difficult emotions are involved with chronic illness, as Chi Nei Tsang brings awareness and support to the process of digesting repressed emotions.
