About APodC

In Australia, the Australian Podiatry Association is the only organisation dedicated exclusively to serving podiatrists and their patients.

The Australasian Podiatry Council is the professional body on which all State Associations and Podiatry New Zealand are affiliated.

Australia's Australasian Podiatry Council (APodC) is a national organisation comprised of state-based Member Associations and provides professional representation for practising podiatrists in the country.

The Australasian Podiatry Council holds clinical practice guidelines that pertain to clinical equipment and facilities, infection control, clinical records, occupational safety and health, clinical coding, and quality improvement.

APodC works to provide access to quality podiatry services and provides specialised services to state-based podiatric associations.

In addition, the Australasian Podiatry Council maintains competency standards in Australia, liaising with Podiatry Schools regarding undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

With the assistance of State Registration Boards, the Australasian Podiatry Council has developed National Infection Control Guidelines for Podiatrists. These guidelines represent a discipline-specific guide to infection control protocols.

Furthermore, The Australasian Podiatry Council has developed a Basic Foot Screening Tool checklist to assist health professionals in identifying those with diabetes who may need to be referred to a podiatrist.

Advocacy

The Association's advocacy agenda includes lobbying activities, education forums, and media activities.

As a member-driven organisation, the Association's advocacy activities rely heavily on the expertise, skills, and dedication of its members.

By utilising the expertise of its members working across a wide range of fields, the Association aims to make sure that its advocacies are grounded in the best available research and is informed by contemporary Australian podiatry practice.

In addition to the establishment of the advocacy committee, the association has refocused efforts on advocacy to gain greater representation of podiatrists on key issues.

Professional Representation

Australian Podiatry Association policy and advocacy are driven by issues that concern podiatrists. The association represents its members and the broader profession on key issues.

The organisation seeks to influence government decision-makers, respond to government enquiries, and participate in numerous consultations, working groups, and networking opportunities.
