What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a science based on the premise that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all glands, organs, parts and systems of the body. The physical act of applying pressure using thumb, finger and hand techniques to these reflex areas results in the reduction of stress which promotes physiological changes in the body.
Of all the modalities taught in remedial massage courses, reflexology is one of the most effective ways for your therapist to influence a particular region or organ of the body.
What Can I Expect in a Reflexology Treatment?
Your therapist will start with a case history and during the course of this history note down particular areas that are likely to need extra attention during your session.
At Artemisia Health Centre, each reflexology treatment starts with a luxurious foot bath with aromatherapy oils to relax and soften your feet.
Typically, the whole foot is treated (about 20 minutes each) with particularly painful areas or areas detected by sensations fed back to your therapist receiving extra attention. This is then followed with a soothing foot massage to round out the session.
In the short video below you will get an introduction to how the various parts of the body are represented on the soles of the feet.
