APMA Membership

No matter what level of membership you hold, the APMA will continue to support you throughout your Pilates career.

A membership with the APMA is valuable whether you've taken a course from another organisation or a course accredited by the APMA.

Membership Levels and Benefits
Associate Teacher Membership Level 1

For teachers who haven't taken courses directly recognised by the APMA.

Requirements include: 

  • Successful completion of a program of study, i.e. Government Accredited Certificate IV in Pilates.
  • Minimum of 500 hours of teaching experience in the Pilates Method
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
  • Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
  • As set by the APMA, members are required to maintain continuing education credits
  • Eligibility to upgrade to Level Two upon completion of the National Registration Examination
Teacher Membership Level 2

Teachers who have completed courses accredited by the APMA.

Requirement includes:

  • Completion of a program of study
    • minimum government Accredited Diploma in Pilates or completion of the APMA Accredited Level 2 Teacher training course within the last 2 years
  • Minimum 1000 hours of experience in teaching the Pilates Method
  • Completion of the National Registration Examination, if a Diploma in Pilates has not been completed
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
  • Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
  • As set by the APMA, members are required to maintain continuing education credits
Professional Practitioner Level 3

For teachers who have completed accredited APMA courses.

Requirements include:

  • Completion of a program of study
    • minimum Government Accredited Advanced Diploma in Pilates
  • A minimum of 3500 hours of experience teaching the Pilates Method
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
  • Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
  • As set by the APMA, members are required to maintain continuing education credits
Professional Practitioner Level 4

For teachers who have completed accredited APMA courses. 

Only applicable to current Level 2 or Level 3 members who show 7,500 hours of teaching. 

An existing member must have held their membership for at least one full membership year before applying for an upgrade.

Requirements include:

  • Successful completion of a program of study
  • A minimum of 7500 hours of teaching experience in the Pilates Method is required
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
  • Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
  • As set by the APMA, members are required to maintain continuing education credits
Student Membership

For current Pilates Teacher Course students. Eligible for 2 years from enrollment date.

Associate Membership

For anyone interested in the Pilates Method. This is a non-voting membership level, but you: 

  • Have access to workshops, courses and industry information. 
  • Will receive the APMA Newsletter
  • Can attend APMA annual general meetings.
