Ayurveda is the Science of Life and the Art of Living
Ayurveda, literally translates to English as the science of life or the science of longevity. The goal of Ayurveda is to promote good health, prevent disease and achieve long life. It is an ancient, alternative medical system based on the principle that disease is triggered by an imbalance in the life force or humors (vatha, pitta and kapha). Ayurveda is part of the Vedic tradition and is thought to be the oldest and the most complete medical system, with records dating back more than 5000 years.
Although Ayurvedic Medicine sprang from the East, it is ideal for the fast pace of Western lifestyles, with its stress-related conditions that are often difficult to remedy with conventional medicine.
Because Ayurveda is a complete healing system, it includes treatments for the whole body, massage and detoxification programs, counselling and herbal medication. It is a truly holistic modality and provides a tailored approach to your health.
Ayurveda is not just a system of medicine but also a life path that teaches the maintenance and protection of our health. Ayurveda describes the diet, medicines and behaviours that are beneficial and harmful to life.
The goal of Ayurveda is to integrate and balance body, mind, and spirit. Ayurvedic philosophy states that people, their health and the universe are all connected. It is believed that health problems result when the relationships are out of balance.
Your Ayurveda Practitioner will not just treat you, but heal you holistically by balancing the humours and neutralising the disease process.
THE PRINCIPLES OF AYURVEDA
Ayurvedic medicine takes the view that youre a unique individual comprising five primary elements that are also present in nature - ether (space), air, fire, water and earth. When any of the 5 elements are in the environment, they will exert an influence on us for example, the food we eat and the weather. Although were all a composite of the five primary elements, particular elements are thought to combine to create physiological functions.
We are all made up of unique ratios of the doshas Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These ratios vary from individual to individual, as a result, Ayurveda views each of us as a special blend which creates our diversity.
Ayurveda provides us with a model to use when designing treatment protocols to address specific health challenges. If any of the doshas (Vata, Pitta or Kapha) have experienced an accumulation of energy, Ayurvedic Medicine will recommend lifestyle and nutritional guidelines to assist in reducing the dosha that has become excessive. We may also recommend particular herbal supplements to expedite healing. If the body contains an abundance of toxins, a cleansing process known as panchakarma will be recommended to eliminate the unwanted toxins.
WHY AYURVEDA
This spiritual science offers numerous unique benefits:
- it views patients as individuals, not as a generic group.
- It heals from the root-cause of an illness, not just tending to the symptoms
- Only natural therapies are offered
- No side effects
- Therapies are inexpensive and effective
- A rare chance of recurrence of the disease
- A diet regime is integral to the treatment and will be based on the personal constitution of the patient
- It is a lifestyle, rather than a treatment and offers preventive as well as curative options
Ayurvedic Medicine is a complete healing system offering treatment for almost all known diseases, via its preventive, curative, palliative and detoxification therapies.
We also offer 10, 14, 21 and 28 day Ayurveda Retreats designed to cleanse, rejuvenate and bring you back into a state of balance.
