Carissa Stewart is the owner and manager at Body Align Myotherapy. Carissa completed her Advanced Diploma in Myotherapy in 2002 and is a member of the Institute of Registered Myotherapists Australia (IRMA).
Since then she has continued her education in Myotherapy through regular Myotherapy seminars and workshops. Carissa also completed the post-graduate program in assessment, treatment and preventions of soft tissue dysfunction through the Australasian College of Soft Tissue Therapy. Carissa has a very strong interest in the rehabilitation of muscles which led her to further her studies and become a Certified Rehabilitation Pilates Instructor in 2008.
Carissa unfortunately was involved in an accident at the age of 16, which caused her to suffer from chronic low back pain. During year 12 she was very frustrated with her pain and decided to choose a career to educate herself about her body. Carissa chose Myotherapy after seeking all types of therapy to help herself. While studying Myotherapy she was advised to try Pilates to strengthen her core and lower back. Carissa now lives an active and pain free life and wants to help you achieve this.
In the past twelve years Carissa has treated an extensive amount of acute and chronic muscular pain, tightness and restriction of movement. With the combination of personal experience, Pilates and Myotherapy Carissa is very passionate in helping you.
Ashlee Hayes is the assistant manager at Body Align Myotherapy. Ashlee graduated from RMIT University with an Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy in 2009 and is also a member of IRMA. Ashlee has been a very dedicated Myotherapist for the last six years at Body Align Myotherapy.
Ashlee has previously been a member of the Victorian Institute of Sport as an elite gymnast and pole vaulter. Ashlee also performed as an acrobat in Japans Tokyo Disney Sea which took its toll on her body causing chronic lower back, hip and pelvis pain.
Through trial and elimination Ashlee found the combination of myotherapy and pilates to be the best treatment and rehabilitation for the muscular imbalances that had developed during these times. Ashlee is now an APPI Qualified Mat instructor and incorporates this into her rehabilitation advice for clients and her one on one corrective exercise classes.
Ashlee has also furthered her education through the following seminars:
Sheridan Vick joined the team at Body Align Myotherapy in 2013, after completing her Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy at the Australian College of Sports Therapy. She is also a member of IRMA.
Sheridan has been a committed member of our team at Clifton Hill now for two years.
The strenuous activity of being involved in netball from a young age, growing up competing and training in high level development programs took its toll on her body causing her to have persistent lower back and knee pain. After seeing multiple health care professionals it wasnt till she saw a soft tissue therapist where she finally got some relief. Having been inspired it was then Sheridan realized that aiding peoples musculoskeletal health and wellbeing is what she wanted to do.
Sheridans communication skills and friendly personality enable her to build strong rapport with clients and this she prides herself on. She believes a strong communication bridge needs to be made in order to get the right information from clients in regards to their pain and discomfort. From this treatment plans and programs are more beneficial and clients have quicker and better responses to treatment.
Sheridan loves her work. she adopts a whole range of techniques from Myofascial Release, Dry Needling, Cupping and Muscle Energy Techniques. She enjoys treating upper back and neck dysfunction, chronic neck pain (headaches) along with Rotator cuff/Shoulder injuries.
Lynette Van Der Poel
Lynette Van Der Poel graduated from Endeavour College of Natural Health with a Bachelor of Health Science in Musculoskeletal Therapy. She is also a member of IRMA.
Lynette was involved in the Football TV series "The Recruit" and currently works with the Carlton Football Club, in the Soft Tissue Department.
Lynette was surrounded by many family and friends who suffered from many musculoskeletal conditions which sparked her desire to broaden her knowledge, skills and experience to help those close to her. Seeing her family and friends seek out help but not receive any positive outcomes from previous treatments led Lynette to believe there had to be a more effective way to treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions.
Today Lynette endeavours to help anyone and everyone to overcome their musculoskeletal conditions so that they can live a more fulfilling lifestyle.
Miranda Wong is a Remedial Massage Therapist at Body Align Myotherapy and Massage. She graduated from Southern School of Natural Therapies with a Diploma of Remedial Massage and is also a member of AAMT.
For 18 years Miranda competed in Calisthenics, eventually competing at the highest Championship level. Ongoing ankle, pelvic and shoulder injuries meant an early retirement from the sport, however seeing many health care professionals over the years sparked her interest in the human body and how it works.
Miranda has strong interest in how the body and mind affect each other, especially with todays busy lifestyles. She also has a special interest in Myofascial and Muscle Energy Techniques after having studied under Steven Goldsteins soft-tissue release methods. As Miranda wants you to get the best results possible, her remedial massages start and end with an assessment of the body and presenting conditions using basic Range of Motion and Special Tests.
Miranda offers Relaxation, Pregnancy, Sports, Deep tissue and Remedial Massage. Miranda has a relaxed, caring and professional approach to all her clients and she will use a variety of massage techniques to assist your specific needs.
