"Yoga is the process of stilling the mind and then merging the individual soul (Jeevatma) with the universal soul (Paramatma). Following the pedagogical adage of leading the pupil "from the concrete to abstract", the common man can understand what Yoga is by exploring the concrete, that is the body. Communication and proper understanding exist between body and nerves, nerves and mind, mind and intellect, and will and consciousness. When these vehicles of jeevatma or individual soul operate at the highest level of efficiency, the pure awareness only remains. It is hard to begin directly with the abstract - the soul - that is Sat-Chit-Ananda (existence, consciousness and bliss)"Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar

A few words about us
Our mission is to give students an opportunity to look within, refocus, realign and regain a sometimes lost sense of perspective. We are devoted to providing a soothing space for people to come and relax, and unwind, leaving behind the stresses of their day.

Body Balance Yoga Studio was recently opened to create a spiritually aware and socially active environment centreing around one of the most ancient practices available today, Yoga. In offering a range of Yoga, Meditation and Pilates classes, we aim to create a space to practise mindfully, with integrity and community spirit. The practice of Yoga invites us to pay attention to the dialogue between body and mind, thought and feeling, awareness and action. In a world that continues to draw us out of our bodies and toward the external, the practice of Yoga works to integrate and align the demands of daily life with a deeper understanding of who we really are.

At Body Balance Yoga, we believe that it is the connection to ourselves, to each other, and to our local and global communities that enables humanity to move towards the greater awareness that can inspire a spiritually-based social activism. In offering a space for daily Yoga with teachers from a variety of traditions, we strive to honour the roots and origins of the practice while at the same time building a meaningful framework for doing this practice today.

What is Yoga

Yoga as most people generally know is not merely a set of Asanas/Yoga postures and other Yogic exercises or techniques, it's a way of living and it encapsulates the whole human life. Yoga has its focus on maintaining a state of calmness in the inner as well as outer world. What's the need of maintaining inner calmness? The word is full of chaos; and we can see through the water when its still, in a similar way our perception of the world can not be proper until our mind is at peace or its calm.

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word 'yuj', which means 'to join'. So the basic ideal of Yoga is joining or the union of atma or soul with parmatma or god. It is explained as the union of self with the higher self. Yoga forms the basis for this process as it cleanses the mind and body of an individual, which is a prerequisite for the same.

Corporate Yoga

The stress and strain of odd working hours along with a sedentary life style can take its toll on our health and well being. Many diseases and injuries can progress silently without alarming one of any imminent risks. Life style related health problems like Obesity, Diabetes, Heart conditions, High Cholesterol, Backache, Cervical cancers, Osteoporosis, Thyroid related problems, High Blood Pressure and Kidney disease may have life – threatening consequences that can be avoided.

Various factors like sitting posture, multi tasking, long working hours on a computer, talking on the phone while typing, irregular eating habits, rigorous travel, night shifts and odd working hours etc can create a multitude of health hazards.

If we take the time to listen to our bodies, exercise regularly, eat healthily and rest/meditate when needed the body will follow in kind, supporting you to work, live and play at your optimum potential. Unlike other exercise routines Yoga is low impact, improves strength and flexibility, builds concentration, and reduces tension including mental and physical stress. Yoga also works to condition the body internally, massaging, stretching and stimulating our organs so as to remove any blockages and toxins that may cause or increase health and wellness issues (as above).

In addition, Yoga is known to eradicate fatigue, generate energy and promote happiness, all of which lead to increasing morale, work place productivity and enthusiasm for life in general........ perfect for the corporate/ work environment.
