CHINESE MEDICINE HERBAL

Dr. Joanna Kim has qualified, accredited and passionate Chinese Herbal Medicine practitioner, with extensive study and practice in China and Australia

Herbal preparations have been in use in all cultures around the world for many thousands of years. The system used within Chinese Herbal medicine theory utilizes hundreds of different ingredients to bring balance to the body and alleviate illnesses. and The Traditional Chinese Medicine Endangered Species Certification Scheme (ESCS) guidelines.

Herbal medicine can be administered in a variety of ways including raw, powdered, granulated, liquid, pills or capsule preparations. Herbal formulas should only be prescribed by an accredited herbalist to prevent any adverse reactions.

Raw herbs are usually made into a decoction by boiling them for a certain amount of time and are consumed once or twice daily. This decoction can also be applied externally as is the case for facial washers.

Powdered and granulated herbs are specially prepared to the highest quality and are batch tested for impurities and toxic matter. Large herbal companies produce this for improved efficacy and patient compliance.

MOXIBUSTION

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing. Moxibustion has been used throughout Asia for thousands of years; in fact, the actual Chinese character for acupuncture, translated literally, means "acupuncture-moxibustion." The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain general health.

CUPPING

The therapy of cupping has been used in China for thousands of years. Through several years of accumulated clinical experience, the clinical applications of cupping have become increasingly wide. In the 50 the clinical efficacy of cupping was confirmed by Co-Research of China and acupuncturist of the former Soviet Union, and was established as an official therapy practice in hospitals all over China.

Today, as more people seek complementary and alternative therapies to deal with their health problems, therapies such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, aromatherapy, reflexology and massage have become popular.

The primary object of cupping therapy is to move blood, remove pathogens and eliminate stagnation of any kind from the body. A warm feeling throughout the body, some perspiration and a sense of relaxation normally follow the treatment due to improved circulation and muscle relaxation.

The full benefits of this therapy are usually achieved after between 5 and 10 visits. Sometimes the benefits are noticed immediately, but short lived. Patients under 16 years old of age normally require fewer treatments.

Cupping therapy can be employed quite successfully during the management phase of many injuries as well as before the sporting activity, in order to help the athlete deliver their maximum performance.
