Reflexology is an ancient healing art which has been traced back 5000 years. It is a form of healing based on the premise that a mirror image of the body is reflected in the feet and (hands).
Reflexology points on the feet (hands) are massaged to promote healing and relaxation. Reflexology is a holistic form of therapy, as subtle changes occur in the body on physical, mental, emotional and energy levels.
You may notice:
- improved skin tone and texture due to improved circulation
- better quality sleep
- deeper relaxation and changes in attitude
- detoxification, improved vitality, and shifts in emotional blocks
The lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system comprising of a network of lymphatic vessels that carry a clear fluid called lymph. Lymph is derived from the plasma. As the plasma circulates through out the body some of it seeps through the capillary walls as well as from other blood vessels. This leaked fluid is lymph.
One of its primary functions is to supply a fluid environment between the cells and the tissuesit actually bathes them. Lymph is collected through lymph vessels and transported to lymph nodes (glands). Our lymphatic system is part of our immune system as its job is to:
.carry waste products such as dead and worn out cells as well as harmful bacteria and viruses out of the interstitial spaces that surrounds the cells. Lymph contains lymphocytes and other white cells. Lymphocytes act to kill bacteria, viruses, metastatic cells, and worn out cells.
Other lymphatic tissue of the body is the spleen, tonsils and the thymus
The Spleen: is the largest mass of lymphatic tissue whose main function is the production of protective antibodies? It acts as a blood filter - ridding the body of old blood cells and bacteria. It stores iron and produces hemoglobin from old blood cells.
The Tonsils: serve as special filters and produce antibodies. When we have certain types of infections our tonsils and glands may swell up and we may also have a temperature. This are signs of our immune system fighting an infection.
The Thymus: This organ grows rapidly from birth to puberty and then diminishes in size. As a matter of fact an adult lives quite comfortably without one. It plays an important part in producing antibodies and controlling the immune system in child hood.
Problems associated with the lymphatic system are:
- Swelling around the ankles
- Breast lumps
- Fluid retention
- Sore throat
These problems can be addressed using Reflexology. By working Reflexes of the Kidney, Adrenal Glands, Lymph System, Chest/Lung area, All Glands, Spleen, Cervicals, and all Toes.
Working these reflexes unlocks stagnant energy, improves blood supply and circulation, improving the lymph flow out of these congested areas and detoxifying tissues affected, thus promoting balance back into the body.
