Acupressure

The treatment system known as acupressure involves working on a recipient's Qi (energy), by pressing the fingers and thumbs on specific points that are located along channels (also known as meridians), of Qi.

What Are Pressure Points?

Pressure points are the places where the channels come near the body's surface, making it possible to influence the Qi there. By manipulating the points you, can either strengthen, disperse, or calm the Qi, helping it to flow smoothly in the body and to help bring about a harmonious relationship between body and mind, relieving symptoms.

Why Try Acupressure?

It is a very versatile form of treatment that can be given whenever or wherever it is convenient. It is also very good for emergency treatment and self heal. It can relieve a stomach upset or headache whilst at work or work on a toothache till you can manage to see your dentist. It can help you sleep and relieve the anxiety associated with exams and stress. It is wonderful for circulation or blood pressure problems and can aid in the stimulation of the immune system to fight off infections and disease.

What To Expect During a Treatment

An experienced practitioner will develop a "treatment plan" tailored to suit the individual needs of the client. If you can recognise the symptoms of an ailment in the very early stages, acupressure can often prevent its further development, or reduce its severity, however it is not intended that it should replace professional health care, but merely act as an adjunct to it.

Diagnoses involves the use of Yin and Yang theory of imbalances from the pattern of disharmony and this is used as a guide toward a treatment plan. This depends on whether Qi is blocked, deficient or in excess. Deficient Qi must be tonified, blocked Qi dispersed, and overactive Qi calmed. When any of these occur, their link to a particular organ will be recognised by the trained eye of the practitioner. This can take years to master and be comfortable with, but a beginner can at least gain pain relief.

Shiatsu Treatments

Shiatsu is a healing modality originating from Japan. It uses the power of touch and pressure to enable each of us to contact our own abilities of self-healing or to aid another in the process of healing.

How Does It Work?

The practitioner uses the aid of pressure from the fingers, thumbs, palms and sometimes even elbows, knees and feet, to induce relaxation and a feeling of wellbeing. It is sometimes a dynamic, sometimes are more static form of therapy, involving pressure on and stretching of the limbs and torso, kneading and releasing tight muscles, and supporting areas of weakness.

Giving Shiatsu is like performing a moving meditation and leaves the practitioner feeling as balanced as the receiver.
