About Me

I am a registered clinical Psychotherapist/Counsellor practicing in Melbourne, North Carlton & Moorabbin. I am endorsed by the Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA); as a Level 4, practitioner and Supervisor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA); and with the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapist (ARCAP).

My Approach

Over the many years of study and practice, I have come to understand that change is brought about by an exploration of a person’s subjectivity.

My passion as a therapist is grounded in the principles that examine a person’s lived experiences, bringing to life the awkward, unanswered questions that ultimately provide life-changing experiences. The therapeutic work that we share together and that is brought to bear on your experiences will bring about new possibilities for change and an advance on the meanings that you seek in life.

Finally, I remain indebted to every encounter I have with my clients. It is in these encounters that I continually learn about our human frailties and the unique ways in which we attempt to make sense of our distress, which for me remains a truly gratifying and learning experience.

Counselling Services

Anxiety

If we develop ways of coping that are not personally supportive, healthy or helpful, anxiety remains deep-seated and we develop a neurosis, frequently experiencing a threat to our existence and our relational world. Often these unhelpful ways of existing remain out of our awareness and we find ourselves behaving with avoidance and clever disguise, or conform to others’ perceived demands made on us. Sometimes, these neurotic symptoms become severely disabling where we find that we want to isolate and retreat from life itself.

Depression

Feeling depressed is also a feeling of ones personal values being in crisis. At a personal level, people experiencing depression can also become self-critical, experience self-hate, feeling inadequacy and irresponsible. Often, life and living seem overwhelming and the constant pressure from these symptoms tells the person that they can never achieve anything.

Personality Disorder

Whilst behaviour that constitutes these descriptions is explored in the context of the impact it has on you and others, it is vital to understand that you are a product of experiences and precipitating factors from your past that leads you to experiencing life in your unique but distressing way.

Psychotherapy will examine the developmental contributions to your experience of personal distress. We will work together to explore the ‘what’ that has shaped you, ‘how’ it has shaped you, how you currently experience life and ‘what’ this means for you in your physical, social, personal and spiritual world views.

Loss & Grief

Loss is a signifier of our human condition that launches us into a space of grief, despair, loneliness and sadness. It can interfere with the sense of our identity, we question the meaning of life, we feel overwhelmed, disoriented, isolated and shocked, angry and irritable. It can even impact on your physical health and self-care. All this will have an impact on your interpersonal relationships.

Professional counselling will help steer you into taking the necessary and appropriate steps that are suitable and relevant for you.

Addictions & Addictive Personalities

Emotions linked to shame and humiliations are by nature, unattractive and difficult to deal with. As a result, behaviour linked to something that provides a great deal of distraction from these frequently arising emotions, and the satisfaction this brings, becomes the compulsion to repeat this behaviour.

Addictions are also formed as a result of dealing with psychological, social and physical distress that produces a pleasurable feeling and a significant distraction from having to deal with the distress being experienced.

Psychotherapy will aim to provide that integrated structure to explore any precipitating events in your history, that can be linked to the troubling emotions that sit behind and fuel your compulsive behaviour that is attached to your addiction.

Anger & Anger Management

How often have we heard the phrase, ‘burning with rage’? Anger can be like the flames around a log that gets totally consumed. Anger is an emotion that when ignited, burns through our sensibilities and consumes us and we find ourselves behaving aggressively, irrationally or violently.

Therapy will help explore this signal emotion (anger) that is yelling out that all is not well in your world. Mindfulness strategies will assist in developing new streams of awareness, with new possibilities for experiences of change to occur.

Parenting Issues with Teens & Adolescents

Parenting is a long haul! It comes with significant challenges from your (as a parent) own associations and learnt behaviour when being raised as a child. It is also complicated with raising your child as a single parent or in a relationship that is entrenched with difficulties.

Therapy will help you identify what is happening in the relationship to better understand how to manage and move forward and keep your relationship with your adolescent healthy and manageable.

Counselling Services & Therapy

People seeking counselling or psychotherapy often bring concerns about a relationship or their difficulties in daily life. Therapy will attempt to explore how your values have been impacted by the predicament you find yourself in. We will work together to understand how these particular views and feelings began to develop and take hold in your earlier developmental years. Through the process of therapy, you will approach your lived experiences with a deepening awareness, being guided by therapeutic inquiry that you will eventually develop to make your own, and gradually understand how to live and respond to your needs authentically.

Clinical Supervision

Counselling and psychotherapy are professions of ongoing learning, where the application of theory into practice needs to be appraised and monitored.

I provide individual clinical supervision and am flexible with either face-to-face or Skype sessions. Issues that are typically explored are: client issues and goal-setting; case conceptualisation; intervention strategies; ethical and legal issues; counsellor/therapist professional development; supervisee-client alliance and boundaries.
