Counselling and Psychotherapy
What sort of counseling do I do?
My experience in counseling is with children, teenagers, adults and elderly providing short and longer term sessions to explore and find a way forward through emotional and personal issues. I have helped people experiencing grief and loss, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, cancer and I also work with couples. I worked as a Crisis Support Worker at Lifeline for 3 years. My qualifications are Master of Counselling and Pyschotherapy from Adelaide University and a Certificate in Sandplay Therapy and Symbol work. I am a trained Mindful Self-Compassion teacher.
I use a person- centred strengths based approach together with the use of expressive arts and mindfulness as well as some narrative therapy, solution focused and CBT techniques. Every individual has the capacity within for self- direction, healing and growth but we need help to explore our true feelings and thoughts. Over time we can develop attitudes and ways of behaving that stem from ‘old hurts’ and we carry this baggage around with us and it can impact negatively on our current relationships and actions.
In society today we are surrounded by negativity, people complain, criticize, compare ourselves to others and we can walk around with a version of the “I’m not good enough” story. We can start to believe negative thinking about ourselves and we forget what we can do-our strengths, talents, capacities.
Counselling sessions give you the opportunity to talk to a trained professional about what is going on for you, without fear of judgment and knowing it will be kept confidential. It can help you understand what is going on for you and what helps you the best. You can learn some self- help skills and start to rewrite the story of who you are and what you can do to find a way forward for valued living.
Middle aged female client
At my first meeting with Bronwyn in March she quickly identified the potential reason for my acute onset of anxiety.
She knew nothing about me however could see the distress I was in and offered to support and guide me through my distress.
I immediately felt comfortable, safe and secure with Bronwyn and started my sessions 2 days later.
After 3 sessions with Bronwyn she helped me overcome and rid myself of the anxiety using mindfulness, meditation, homework sessions and more importantly creating a family tree.
The family tree helped me to understand why my anxiety had suddenly presented itself without warning.
Bronwyn has been very supportive and is a compassionate, caring, empathetic and understanding lady.
Thank you Bronwyn, so very much appreciated
Elderly female client
I met Bronwyn when I was at a very low ebb. I had just lost my husband…, my best friend too, after nearly 50 years of marriage and felt so alone. As my grief counsellor she visited me weekly for ten weeks and it was a big help. I also kept a diary which also helped me. Thank you.
Counselling took away a lot of stress, depression, anxiety and I became more observant and happier.
Counselling helped me realise what I was thinking.
Counselling helped me find out how I should handle things and it was good to talk about how I feel.
Counselling sessions are available for children, teenagers and adults and couples. Sessions are tailored to suit individual needs using a variety of approaches that look at the whole person.I use person- centred strengths based approach together with the
