About Sandra

Sandra has worked in mental health for over 25 years as a therapist, writer, and adult educator. Presently, she is in private practice and works with individuals and couples in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. For over six years, couples have come from around Australia and as far away as Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Singapore for relationship counselling retreats with her in Byron Bay.

Sandra works with male/female studies, biographical counselling and addiction with a perspective that integrates elements of cognitive, narrative and psychosynthesis therapies. Over many years she has strengthened her craft by personal and professional development leading to an integrative approach that encourages clear thinking, a warm feeling life, and acting from skilful will.

During her career, she has developed stress management programs for international corporations, worked with the homeless and has facilitated several courses and workshops in a broad variety of mental health issues both in Australia and Japan. She created an innovative meditation program for those in addiction recovery at the Buttery Rehabilitation Centre and was a research team member on a counselling education project sponsored by the Japanese government. She provides consultancy on carer’s issues to the NSW Health Department in the Northern Rivers and is a brokered counsellor for the National Carer’s Counselling Program.

What to Expect

Whether you come as an individual or as a couple, practical support is given for assisted self-inquiry with the aim to build strength-giving inner capacities, to recognise unhelpful habits and to envisage a future relationship picture of living creativity.

The sessions explore;

  • How to identify and be guided by the rhythms of change and development in our relationship,

  • When to recognise the threads of past events that unconsciously lead the present life and,

  • How to meet the demands of a shared future together.

Couple’s Retreats

Counselling retreats are a once in a lifetime opportunity for intensive couple’s therapy in a beautiful, nurturing environment.

The counselling sessions are structured in a way so that communication won’t be a continuation of what you already have experienced between you.

Support is given to regain the warmth of connection and to take responsibility for what you individually bring to the relationship.

Couples report that when they leave the retreat, they learn to care for more than just their own, individual well-being. If there are children involved, their best interest is taken into consideration. For their sake alone, it is worth the effort to have some intensive counselling, no matter what the outcome.
