Extracoporeal Shock Wave Therapy

Radial shockwaves are high energy acoustic waves. They are transmitted through the surface of the skin and spread radially into the body. The body responds with increased metabolic activity around the site of the pain, stimulating and accelerating the healing process. RSWT is used successfully in sports medicine and daily practice all over the world. Its effectiveness is demonstrated in many clinical studies. RSWT is FDA approved!

Fungal Nail Laser

The use of laser in podiatry is not new. For years lasers have been used safely on the foot for several conditions. Although the 1064 laser is FDA approved for the temporary clearing of nails, new lasers are now being used to treat nail fungus. These lasers have some advantages and are approved by the FDA for many other treatments but laser treatment of nail fungus is considered an “off label use”.

FOX 1064 Podiatry Laser
  • Pulsed 1064 Laser Treatment for Fungal Nails
  • No Side Effects (unlike oral medications)
  • Provides Clearer and Healthier Looking Nails with Fast and Painless Treatments
  • New Diode Technology Sets the Standard for Portability, Power and Ease of Use
Traditional Treatments
There are several treatments for nail fungus (onychomycosis). The most conservative is to just thin down the nail every 9 weeks and apply topical medications but this type of medicine does not work well if the whole nail is involved. Oral medications (Lamasil) can be prescribed but elevates liver enzymes and can cause liver damage. Women are warned not to take oral medications if they are going to become pregnant.

Onychomycosis The most common cause of brittle yellowing nails is fungal infection. Over 35 million Americans have fungal nail infections. Fungi are dermatophytes that feed on nail keratin. These organisms propagate in a warm, dark and moist environment. There is no better place for nail fungus to reside and infect toes than in shoes. Infected nails have yellowing or white spots on the nails. As the infection develops, nails will get thicker, further discolor and fracture. Progressive infection of additional nails is common.
  • Thickening of the nail
  • Build-up of debris under the nail
  • Changes in texture, loss of shine and clarity
  • Brittleness and crumbling at the edges of the nail
  • Small separations of the nail plate from the nail bed
Laser Treatment of Nail Fungus
The ability of the 1064 laser energy to gently heat the nail bed makes it ideal for the safe and effective desired result of nail clearing. The effects of 1064 nanometer laser energy on nail fungi are two fold and understood in relation to cellular chemical reactions within fungal cells that are necessary for fungal growth and survival. The photo-thermal effect changes cellular metabolism and at increased temperature (42°C), cell components are damaged and metabolism is altered. Clinicians report a photochemical effect that further compromises fungal cell enzymes and proteins. Lipids in cell membranes are changed in structure and their function of protecting and regulating the internal environment of the cell becomes further compromised resulting in fungal death and nail clearance. Podiatrists experienced with clinically treating onychomycosis have come to the conclusion that the treatment of fungal nails is a process and the prevention of reinfection is critical to achieving success. Laser is an excellent choice for patients who do not want to risk taking oral medications. This patient below had tried many different treatments over the last 7 years without success. After couple of months using fungal nail laser treatment, the result is really promising.

Foot Mobilisation

Do you suffer from aches and pains in your feet, heels, knees, hips or back? Poor joint alignment in the feet can effect the ankles, knees, hips and back. This is a major cause of pain and poor posture.

What is FMT?
FMT is a series of manual treatments in conjunction with foot strengthening and conditioning exercises to enhance foot health and strength. FMT is a gentle treatment used to realign the joints and increase circulation to the feet, to promote healing and improve foot function. Your Podiatrist Kristi Boles will assess and identify the source of the pain and create an individualised treatment plan to care specifically for you. Further information of FMT is available on our website and I encourage you to visit www.caseyalliedhealth.com.au. This highly effective method can relieve pain by enhancing the bodies ability to heal itself. We aim to improve foot function, stability and strength leading to improved foot posture and support of the body. Book your FMT Assessment today.
Conditions FMT Treats
Biomechanical & musculoskeletal disorders of the foot & leg result from abnormal compensation of the affected structures. Nails, Corns and Callus Treatment

A corn or callus are areas of thickened skin that occur in areas of pressure. These are a natural way for the body to protect itself but can become very painful if not managed properly.

Paraffin Wax Bath

Paraffin wax has a very high heat capacity, meaning it is able to absorb and retain a great amount of heat. A paraffin wax spa takes advantage of paraffin’s heat-retaining capacity in a simple process called heat transfer. In technical terms, heat is transferred to the core of the affected area as paraffin goes through a phase change. As it melts, the paraffin becomes a liquid and is able to retain more heat. Then, when a hand, foot, or other area is dipped into the heated bath, the phase of the paraffin that surrounds the dipped area quickly changes into a solid. The heat that is given off is called the heat of fusion. More simply, the heat that goes into melting the paraffin comes out when it solidifies into a comforting paraffin coating, thus transferring the heat into the affected limb. Another way to look at it is the paraffin is the medium that transfers heat from the Therabath to the painful area. At the same time, the heat from the paraffin opens pores and increases circulation in the skin. This is why paraffin is so beneficial to skin, leaving skin softened and more radiant. See more information on paraffin treatment hygiene. Wax heat therapy provides intensive moisture therapy that nourishes skin and cuticles while penetrating heat increases circulation, eases aching joints, relaxes stiff muscles, and leaves skin radiant and healthy looking.

Fast-acting, drug-free heat therapy
  • Proven effective to soothe pain and stiffness
  • Effective on arthritis, inflammation, joint stiffness, muscle spasms, dry cracked skin, and more
  • Versatile, safe, and easy to use
Paraffin Wax Treatment Tips For Chronic Arthritis Joint Pain, Relaxed Muscles, and Increased Circulation
  • Maximize the heat benefit by applying more layers of paraffin. The more layers of paraffin applied, the longer the heat will last. For maximum effect, we recommend 10 to 15 layers.
  • Prolong the treatment by using the plastic liners and insulated mitts and boots (for hands and feet), or plastic and an insulated wrap (for other areas).
For Very Dry, Cracked Skin
  • Prior to applying the paraffin, apply a light coat of nongreasy hydrating cream. Rub extra lotion into cuticles and dry patches. If desired, apply additional lotion after the paraffin treatment too.
  • Apply at least five layers of paraffin.
  • Enhance the softening effects of the paraffin by using the plastic liners and insulated mitts and boots, helping to increase circulation to the skin and absorb additional moisture from the lotion.
For Use in Therapeutic Massage
  • Paraffin treatments on clients’ hands, feet, elbows, etc., are a beneficial addition to any type of therapeutic massage.
  • Paraffin can be used by the practitioner to warm hands prior to providing massage services, and afterwards to ease stiff, tired hands and to relieve dryness from repeated hand washing.
For Use Prior to Exercise or Physical Therapy and to Increase Range of Motion
  • Follow the suggestions for relief from chronic joint pain, etc.
  • For Tired, Work-weary Hands
  • Follow the suggestions for relief from chronic joint pain and relief from dry skin.
