What to Expect

At the initial consultation you will be questioned and examined about the problem you have. It is important to tell your chiropractor everything about you health including medical history and medication so they can make the correct diagnosis.

The 1st appointment will take approximately 40mins and if diagnosis is straight forward you will be able to be treated immediately.

Occasionally other tests such as xray, CT scans or ultra sound may be required to assist in the diagnosis. Not every one at this clinic will require x ray as is the case at some clinics In fact only the minority of our patients meet our strict guidelines.

If you are able to have treatment the chiropractor will explain what they have found and how it can be treated. They may use many different techniques to suit the individual patient including, joint manipulation, soft tissue release techniques including dry needling, massage and Graston.

Importantly to ensure that you don’t become reliant on us you will be advised on how to prevent reoccurance yourselves through exercises, stretching and ergonomic advice.

What we treat

Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles Tendonitis is inflammation of the tendon that connects the calf muscle to the ankle. This occurs due to increase stress and strain on the tendon. The calf muscles control Dorsi flexion (foot pointing down) and pronation (foot rolling in). Previous research has shown that about 25% of athletes that suffer from chronic tendonitis resulted in surgery and that more conservative methods of treatment were less effective.

Frozen shoulder Treatment Perth

A frozen shoulder is a shoulder joint with significant loss of its range of motion in all directions. The range of motion is limited not only when the patient attempts motion, but also when the doctor attempts to move the joint fully while the patient relaxes. A frozen shoulder is also referred to as adhesive capsulitis.

The key to treatment is to start mobilising the joint as soon as pain allows limiting any permeant scaring and loss of mobility. Cortisone injected into the frozen shoulder joint by your Gp may help improve the initial painful stage but commonly this does not work.

Headache

Headaches our one of the most common complaints that patients attend Central City Chiropractors for. The majority of headaches are benign and are often caused by tightness of muscles and joints in the neck. A large percentage of the population work either at the desk or computer. We can minimize the stress caused on the muscles and joints by spending so much time at the desk with ergonomic advice and good posture but unfortunately this isn’t enough to prevent headaches in some patients.

Lower back pain

The lower back is a complex structure composed of the vertebrae (the back bones), the nerves which leave the spinal cord at that level, ligaments, muscles and other soft tissues. The back provides support, movement and protects important structures such as the spinal cord. The vertebrae (the lumbar ones at that level) articulate with each other via the facet joints at the back, and are also separated from each other by a cushion, or shock absorber called the intervertebral disc. They are held together by various ligaments, and form the site of attachment of the back muscles. Nerves exit at the side of the backbone at every level. Lower back pain means a back pain roughly between the bottom of the ribs and the top of the legs at the back. Importantly, the pain often radiates to the buttocks, and sometimes further down the leg and even to the foot. When back pain is combined with pain into the leg, traveling down below the knee, it is referred to as sciatica, because the nerve roots of the sciatic nerve at the back are being irritated by pressure on it. There are many mechanisms of back pain , but the most common one is called 'mechanical' back pain or vertebral dysfunction. Vertebral dysfunction occurs due to malalignment between the lumbar vertebrae at the facet joints and/or intervertebral discs. The small degrees of disarticulation are not gross enough to be seen on an x ray but cause painful muscle spasms and sometimes nerve impingements which contribute to symptoms.

Neck Pain

Severe neck pain that occurs after a neck injury can be a serious problem, and you should see your doctor immediately. Also, if you have problems with neck pain and experience symptoms such as loss of bladder control, shooting pains, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the arms or legs, especially if these symptoms come on suddenly, you should see your doctor straight away.

Neck pain and stiffness that’s associated with headache and fever can be a sign of meningitis (an infection of the membranes surrounding your brain and spinal cord). Meningitis is a serious disease, and you should seek immediate medical treatment if you are experiencing these symptoms. Meningitis is a serious disease, and you should seek immediate medical treatment if you are experiencing these symptoms.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disorder characterized by a breakdown of the articular cartilage at the ends of bones. This cartilage, when healthy will protect the bones on either side of a joint from rubbing against each other. Where there is reduced joint space as well as increased bone growth, there is ultimately less flexibility in the joint, pain and instability.

Sciatica

Sciatica is the name for a syndrome which is characterized by pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the body,it is as thick as one of your fingers where it arises in the lower spine. It then travels from your lower back through your hip and buttock and down your leg where it divides into two branches at the knee. Each leg has its own sciatic nerve.

Shoulder Pain

There is more movement in the shoulder joint than any other joint in the body, unfortunately a price is paid and that is that it has an inherent lack of stability and is therefore at risk of injury if it is not looked after.

In order to increase this stability there needs to be a good control of movement between the ball and socket joint of the shoulder as well as the shoulder blade

Commonly there is a dysfunction in the synergy of movement, due to weakening of some of the muscles and tightening of the others. The can occur with something as simple as poor posture with people who sit at a desk all day, or the other end of the spectrum with weight lifters who don’t understand the importance of a balanced work out.

Whiplash?

If you were recently in an accident and are experiencing neck pain you might have whiplash.

At Central City Chiropractic we commonly see the painful results of motor vehicle accidents. These vary in length of time since the accident and also in type or extent of injury and symptoms. As chiropractors we may see patients the day after or years after the injury. As a chiropractor at central city chiropractic my view is that as soon as you come in for a chiropractic assessment and possibly treatment after the accident the better. So many times I have assessed and treated patients who have been in pain for many months if not years but don’t know where to come to ease their pain and are often living off painkillers and anti-inflammatory with no improvement.
