What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage is a holistic treatment involving the use of many styles of massage and a wide range of diagnostic techniques to treat a condition. Treatments can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. It is not meant to be painful and can be very nurturing. However, the overall goal is not necessarily relaxation, but to help treat muscular restrictions and alleviate pain.

Remedial Massage therapy is the process of physical manipulation of the body’s soft tissues for improving circulation and reducing tension, which in turn leads to a greater healing ability, fewer aches and pains and a general sense of health and well-being.   Massage stretches and mobilizes the muscles, ligaments and tendons improving mobility.

Types of Massage:

  • Remedial therapy
  • Relaxation massage
  • Sports massage/injury management
  • Deep tissue/trigger point therapy
  • Myofascial Release/myofascial cupping
  • Pregnancy massage
  • Oncology Massage
  • Reflexology
  • Lymphatic Drainage
  • Wheelchair Massage

The clinic has a wheelchair accessible ramp.

Did you know?

Massage is the most fundamental of all the healing techniques! When we injure ourselves we automatically rub the injured area - it’s a natural reaction!

Common reasons for visiting a Remedial massage therapist

  • Neck and/or shoulder pain
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Arthritis, muscle cramps or whiplash
  • Spinal injuries, sprains or strains
  • Back pain or sciatica

Benefits of remedial massage:

  • Increase blood and lymphatic circulation
  • Alleviates sore and tired muscles allowing for better joint mobility
  • Reduces stress and anxiety by increasing the body’s natural production of endorphins
  • Encourages general wellbeing and relaxation through stimulation of the nervous system
  • Speeds up muscle recovery by removing irritating waste products and supplying nutrients and oxygen to the blood stream

Relaxation Swedish massage

Is a relaxing and invigorating massage involving gentle, rhythmic techniques which will increase circulation, eliminate toxins, and soothe the nervous system. A perfect way to relax, rejuvenate and nurture your mind and body.

Deep tissue massage

Is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of muscle and fascia to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow deep strokes and finger pressure on the contracted areas. Deep tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins and get blood and oxygen circulating properly.

Sports massage

Whilst sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare or recover from a performance it may also be used to help anyone who is carrying a niggling pain or injury. Using techniques that involve either trigger point therapy or deep tissue massage, sports massage will help stimulate the circulation of blood and lymph fluids throughout the body and can be highly effective in removing knots in your muscles.

Oncology massage

Oncology massage is adapted to suit the needs of a person who has cancer. By adjusting the treatment and being mindful of any contraindications for massage, cancer patients can receive a safe and effective treatment. Massage has been shown to improve the quality of life for people with a history or diagnosis of cancer and may reduce the side effects of cancer treatment.

Pregnancy massage

Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complimentary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. This massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and swelling.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a form of bodywork that focuses primarily on the feet.  Your therapist will focus on "reflex areas” on the feet that correspond with the muscles and organs of the body. It increases the flow of energy, increases circulation and stimulates all organ systems.
