Craniosacral Therapy is a light touch modality developed by the American Osteopath Dr John Upledger It focuses on supporting the central nervous system and the body’s inherent ability to heal and self-correct.
How Does It Work?
Your body knows how to heal a cut of the skin or a broken bone etc. and a healthy, developing baby knows how to gradually advance from lying prone or supine to rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, walking etc. CranioSacral Therapy utilises this “inner knowing”, which is also referred to as “The Inner Physician” to facilitate health and well being.
Palpation of the natural fluid flow (cerebrospinal fluid) in the cranium (head) and spine help me identify where your body holds restrictions and whether they are releasing.
Conditions That Can Be Treated
I treat clients at all ages. Elderly patients benefit from the very gentle approach. The younger a person the softer the tissue and therefore the easier it will be to release restrictions, which might have lead to
Discomfort or Pain during Pregnancy (or simply assisting mum and bub to have a good pregnancy and preparation for birth)
Migraines and Headaches
Neck and Back Pain
Respiratory Conditions (CF, COPD, etc.)
Stress and Tension-Related Disorders
Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
TMJ (Temporo-Mandibular Joint) Syndrome
Central Nervous System Disorders
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Many other conditions
CranioSacral Therapy is also a wonderful way to assist you to stay healthy and well, so that underlying issues do not develop into symptoms.

My Treatment Approach
I focus on addressing the underlying cause of your problem. A treatment will help you relax and heal, while I use my very good palpatory skills to determine restrictions of the connective tissue and fascia, which envelope and connect all parts of your body.
I pay particular attention to the membranes surrounding the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and use the bones of the cranium (head) and the sacrum as handles to work on these membranes.
Bodily symptoms can be manifold. I am here to assist you to identify and deal with the cause for your symptoms. My extensive clinical experience (more then 10 years of working in private and hospital settings in Germany and Australia, with a background in physiotherapy) will assist us to achieve your personal goals and connect with Your Inner Physician on your way to greater and sustainable good health.
Examples Of When Craniosacral Therapy Works
A possible explanation or cause can be very distant from where the symptoms manifest in the body. A fall on the bottom years ago, with immense force travelling up the spine and into the head, can cause restrictions (decreased movement) through the tailbone and pelvis or the cranial bones (skull bones).
After years of compensation the body is running out of options to accommodate the misalignment and now the person is suffering from headaches, neck pain, lower back pain or low energy levels etc.
A baby might have acquired restrictions/overriding of the cranial bones during birth or a vacuum extraction has caused a pull on the whole craniosacral system, the head and membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord and is now suffering from reflux, restlessness or colic. Medical Intervention after birth to save a newborn’s life might have meant separation of mum and bub and could have interfered with how a baby bonds with its mother and how it is able to develop trust in itself and this world.
Years of physical/ emotional stress or one particular experience might cause a person to develop “coping mechanisms”, may it be bodily symptoms that will result in avoidance of a specific activity. These “coping mechanisms or compensations” might serve us at first and will wear our body out in the long run, we might end up with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue or other symptoms.
Stress due to different reasons might cause you to grind your teeth at night, interfering with your sleep and causing terrible pain of the "Temporo-Mandibular-Joint (TMJ)".
The cause, as well as the symptoms can be on different levels (body, mind, spirit). Together we can address these and create pain relief, high energy levels and enable you to live a healthy and meaningful life. These are a few examples of cases I have seen in my practice.
